This is a Full-time Remote Physician Advisor position.

Coverage spans from 6 pm - 3 am EST, Monday-Friday, with one weekday off per 4-week cycle replaced by a Saturday or Sunday 6 pm-3 am shift. Schedules are set based on business needs to ensure adequate staffing of all shifts. There is a shared responsibility for weekend and Holiday coverage by all Physician Advisors.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Promote efficient and effective clinical care for hospitalized patients, delivered in a timely, appropriate, and cost-effective fashion, guided by evidenced-based medicine and regulatory requirements. This is achieved via clinical documentation review, collaborative telephonic communication, and other interactions with hospital client Case Managers and Attending Physicians.
  • Promote payor and provider adherence to all applicable regulatory standards and CMS policy regarding inpatient admissions, observation/outpatient status, and the appropriate status for continued hospital stays.
  • Provide in-depth clinical expertise in the management of specific patient populations to effectively manage length of stay for hospital clients by discussing documented concerns and plans of care with treating physicians as it relates to utilization review.
  • Meet performance and quality metrics while incorporating feedback from quality improvement reports and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Function as a vital aspect of a team consisting of other Physician Advisors, Nurses, Administrative Assistants, Clinical Relationship Managers, and Team Leaders, providing prompt responses to requests for assistance from any team member.
  • Perform all applicable administrative tasks, staying abreast of internal policies/procedures, regulatory changes, and updates within the business segment, and completing mandatory UHG and Optum Physician Advisor Solutions Learn Source and education modules.
  • Make engagement an area of focus and priority with commitment to the organization, colleagues, team members, and clients.

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified
  • Current, unrestricted medical license
  • 3+ years of experience in a hospital-based practice setting
  • Solid clinical knowledge base
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency
  • Proven ability to have meaningful and informed conversations with Case Managers and Attending Physicians
  • Proven solid organization and communication skills
  • Proven problem-solving abilities
  • Proven team player mentality
  • Proven superior documentation skills
  • Ability to work remotely between the hours of 6 pm - 3 am EST, M-F with weekend rotation.

Compensation for this specialty generally ranges from $160,000 - $300,000. Total cash compensation includes base pay and bonus and is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, and may increase over time based on productivity and performance in the role. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase, and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
