Junior AWS Administrator at Leidos
We are seeking a Junior AWS Administrator to support the daily operations of AWS cloud infrastructure and assist with enterprise job scheduling and automation using Tivoli/IBM Workload Scheduler (TWS/IWS). This role focuses on operational support, routine maintenance, and learning under the guidance of senior team members.
The ideal candidate is early in their cloud career, has foundational AWS knowledge, and is eager to develop skills in cloud administration and workload automation.
Core Purpose
Support the health, security, and availability of AWS environments and scheduled workloads by performing routine operational tasks and assisting senior administrators.
Primary Responsibilities
AWS Infrastructure Support
Assist with provisioning and basic configuration of AWS resources such as EC2, S3, IAM users/roles, and VPC components. Perform routine checks on system health, storage usage, and instance status. Follow established standards aligned to the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
Workload Automation Support
Monitor TWS/IWS job streams and report failures or delays to senior staff. Perform basic agent health checks and restart services when documented procedures exist. Assist with simple job definition updates under supervision.
Security & Compliance Support
Apply IAM policies and access changes based on approved requests. Assist in reviewing security findings from AWS Security Hub or similar tools. Follow established security and compliance procedures.
Incident Support
Perform first-level triage on incidents and service tickets. Gather logs and diagnostic information for escalation. Resolve routine issues using documented runbooks.
Performance & Cost Awareness
Support cost monitoring efforts by identifying underutilized resources. Assist with basic scaling actions under direction.
Backup & Disaster Recovery Support
Execute scheduled backups and verify backup completion. Assist in routine disaster recovery tests and documentation updates.
Basic Qualifications
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or a related field with 2+ years of experience (or equivalent experience).
Experience
1–3 years in IT support, system administration, or cloud support roles. Exposure to AWS through coursework, labs, or professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (preferred). AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate (nice to have but not required).
Technical Skills
Basic knowledge of Linux/Unix systems. Foundational scripting skills (Bash or Python). Familiarity with cloud concepts such as IAM, compute, and storage. Exposure to automation tools like Ansible or CloudFormation is a plus.
Foundational TWS / IWS Knowledge
Core Understanding
Basic awareness of TWS architecture and terminology. Familiarity with MDM, DWC, and agent roles at a conceptual level.
AWS Integration Support
Assist with TWS agent installations on EC2 using documented steps. Support simple file dependency setups involving Amazon S3.
Daily Operations
Monitor job execution and escalate issues. Review logs with guidance from senior staff. Assist with patching and maintenance activities.
