Job Description

Internship Summary

The Internship Program with Ascension is designed to provide an on-the-job learning opportunity aimed at gaining "real world" work experience in a large healthcare environment, supporting leadership with data-driven insights that deliver value to those we serve.

As an IT Intern, Asset and Configuration Management, you will serve as a data steward for the organization’s technology backbone. You will play a vital role in ensuring our Configuration Management Database (CMDB) is accurate and reliable. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys "detective work"—identifying data quality issues, spotting patterns, and understanding the root causes of data discrepancies to ensure IT, Security, and Finance teams have the information they need to succeed.

What You Will Do

  • Asset Lifecycle Management: Manage updates for hardware and software assets from intake through retirement.
  • Intake & Triage: Process incoming requests and tickets, ensuring all entries meet strict organizational data standards.
  • Data Stewardship: Actively identify and resolve data quality issues within the CMDB to maintain a "single source of truth."
  • Metrics & Reporting: Provide daily and weekly reporting on asset health and governance KPIs using Google Sheets and ServiceNow.
  • Governance Support: Participate in leadership meetings, capture detailed notes, and assist in drafting technical documentation and process guides.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve how asset data is captured and maintained across the enterprise.

Essential Functions

  • Analytical Thinking: Investigating root causes of data errors rather than just applying surface-level fixes.
  • Documentation: Creating clear, concise records and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ticket Processing: Navigating ITIL-based workflows to fulfill business requests efficiently.
  • Collaboration: Working across IT, Security, and Finance departments to ensure asset data alignment.

Requirements

High school diploma equivalency OR Enrolled in accredited program specific to discipline required.

Additional Preferences

Preferred Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Technical Foundation: A basic understanding of IT fundamentals (servers, endpoints, networks, and cloud).
  • Data Proficiency: Comfort working with data in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, data cleaning).
  • Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems/CMDB platforms is a strong plus.
  • Soft Skills: High attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to navigate ambiguity in imperfect real-world datasets.
  • Curiosity: A natural desire to ask "why" when seeing data patterns and a proactive approach to learning.
