About the Information Technology Intern Role at NYSIF

As an Information Technology Intern at the New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF), you will play a crucial role in providing technical support and maintaining IT infrastructure for NYSIF staff and external customers. This full-time temporary position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic state agency environment, working Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with a 37.5-hour workweek. While primarily based in New York City, there is a possibility for telecommuting, flextime, and alternative work schedules.

You will be actively involved in various IT operations, including remote technical support, hardware imaging, mobile device configuration, and system maintenance. This role is ideal for a student looking to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting and develop essential IT and customer service skills within a supportive team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide remote technical support via the Service Desk for NYSIF staff and external customers.
  • Address service requests and assist end-users with personal computing hardware and software issues.
  • Image computers for deployment and maintain existing systems.
  • Offer new employee onboarding support, ensuring a smooth technical setup.
  • Configure mobile devices for NYSIF personnel.
  • Support all ITS Teams with hardware deployments, installations, and system maintenance tasks.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive user and instructional documentation.
  • Assist with ITS hardware asset inventory, including data maintenance, annual physical inventory, and hardware disposals.
  • Engage in excellent customer service when interacting with end-users.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or a New York State resident attending an out-of-state program.
  • Completion of at least one year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (part-time students may qualify with equivalent credits).
  • A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or equivalent.
  • Ability to work at least part-time during summer (10-15 hours/week), with full-time summer hours preferred; potential for fall and spring work.
  • Capable of lifting at least 25 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred majors include Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Data Science, Project Management, or Business Analyst.
