Position Summary: Data Steward

The Data Steward is responsible for ensuring the quality, integrity, and security of enterprise data assets. This role serves as a key liaison between data owners, data users, and IT teams to define data standards, establish single version of truth, and maintain compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements. The Data Steward plays a critical role in enhancing data reliability, usability, and accessibility across the organization.

This is a Remote/Work from Home position reporting to the Director of Data Engineering

What You Will Do

  • Identify Critical data elements, capture and maintain data asset inventory and associated attributes.
  • Monitor data quality, accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems.
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues, ensuring compliance with regulatory and business standards.
  • Ensure that critical data is inventoried, defined, and properly managed, as defined by policies, standards, and procedures
  • Work closely with data owners, analysts, IT, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and priorities.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on data governance best practices and policies.
  • Support data users by providing guidance on data definitions, sources, and business rules.
  • Ensure adherence to data security, privacy, and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
  • Collaborate with IT teams to implement data controls, lineage tracking, and audit mechanisms.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and business glossaries.
  • Support data classification and lifecycle management efforts.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize data processes and enhance data governance frameworks.
  • Recommend and implement tools or technologies for improved data stewardship.
  • Support automation of data validation, cleansing, and enrichment workflows.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Data Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field plus 5 years of experience in data stewardship, data management, data governance roles OR Bachelors degree in Data Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related field plus 7 years of experience in data stewardship, data management, data governance roles.
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality principles, and master data management (MDM).
  • Experience working with data governance tools (e.g., MS Purview, Collibra, Informatica).
  • Understanding of data warehousing and transformation methods, lineage documentation, and ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in SQL, data profiling tools, and data visualization platforms.
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations and industry compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS) preferred.
  • Certifications in Data Governance, Data Management, or related fields (e.g., CDMP, DGSP) preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills, self-directed and able to handle multiple priorities with demanding timeframes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a high-quality results-driven, team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion, make sound decisions, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient in MS Office, modern communication tools for virtual teams (i.e., MS Teams)

Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time:

  • Sitting, standing and walking (95-100%)
  • Keyboarding (70-90%)
  • Viewing computer monitor, tablet and cell phone requiring close vision (70-90%)

Work Environment: 100% Remote: Work environment is at home.

Compensation

$90,000 to $100,000 plus 5% determined by competitive market analysis and internal equity considerations. Final compensation will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and business needs.
