About This Aerospace and Defense Engineering Intern Opportunity

The Aerospace and Defense Engineering Intern will work on collecting information for the Value Engineering team, including review of component parameters, supporting testing of product for verification, gathering supply chain related data (cost, price, demand, inventory, etc), and creating documentation that would substantiate the choice of new components. You will work under close supervision and receive detailed instructions on all work assignments, potentially working autonomously once proficiency is achieved. More complex duties may be assigned as proficiency grows. This position provides exposure to the design of customer products, offering valuable knowledge of how products are built and perform within the Aerospace and Defense division of Celestica, working with other aerospace partners and customers.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interface directly with Engineering, Supply Chain, outside Suppliers/Vendors, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Well organized, good time-management skills, detailed-oriented and a self-starter.
  • Comfortable working autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Highly adaptable with a strong desire to learn.

Activities

  • Providing comparison data from similar components.
  • Interfacing with supplier chain to determine priority of components to investigate.
  • Review design documentation to understand design intent.
  • Support testing of components and/or end units (documentation only) for verification purposes.
  • Create tables and documents that justify the new selected components.
  • Generate proposals and 4UP charts.
  • Responsible for the continuous and timely update of the proposal database (Platypus) for any status/progress updates or to any of the data content (price, yearly demand, project type, etc).

Physical Demands

Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment. Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.

  • Education: Currently enrolled in University/College internship program, completing 3rd year in a 4-year program of an Electrical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • As this position involves work that is subject to the Canadian Government's Controlled Goods Program (CGP), your employment offer is conditional upon the successful completion of a security assessment by Celestica and/or its authorized agents, per the Controlled Goods Regulations.
