About the Cyber AI/ML Intern Role at Leidos

The Leidos Cyber Accelerator is at the forefront of redefining how we develop, validate, and scale cutting-edge cyber and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. As a Cyber AI/ML Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting various Cyber AI projects.

This position is ideal for an individual passionate about a wide array of projects, from initial research and development to prototype creation, culminating in the deployment of products to our valued customers. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of junior and senior engineers and research scientists, all possessing expertise in machine learning, cybersecurity, IT, reverse engineering, and Cyber AI. The successful candidate will bring experience in areas such as software engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and machine learning (ML).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of AI/ML models for diverse applications.
  • Create innovative AI/ML prototypes to address various use cases.
  • Enhance and maintain essential analysis tools, including the automation of current processes using AI/ML algorithms.
  • Apply existing knowledge and continuously acquire new skills to tackle complex problems, while simultaneously gaining invaluable experience in developing and delivering solutions to customers.
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to collaboratively design and develop robust solutions.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with engineers regarding ongoing tasks and present findings to deliver actionable insights.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a master's degree or PHD program in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Possess hands-on software development skills, with a strong preference for Python proficiency.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, tools, and platforms (e.e., NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, LLM ecosystems like RAG, agentic systems, or similar).
  • Exhibit proven problem-solving, teamwork, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance, requiring US Citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in developing production solutions that leverage large language models (LLMs).
  • Familiarity and experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure for deploying machine learning models.
