About the Role
The Staff Data Engineer will join the Time Owls on the infrastructure and security team. This role focuses on enabling fast, efficient, scalable, and secure work for AI engineers and data scientists by developing tools, optimizing systems, and ensuring best engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Develop Terraform modules and Go libraries for infrastructure management.
- Enhance Python API Services (Django) for improved AI model serving.
- Optimize Airflow DAGs and database usage (MongoDB and Postgres).
- Maintain Kubernetes, Docker, and compute infrastructure for engineering.
- Improve CI/CD automation and participate in oncall rotations.
- Collaborate with teams to improve reliability, security, and observability.
- Engage with vendors to drive cost efficiency.
- Write backend code to deliver functionality under tight deadlines.
- Attend quarterly offsites and regular company meetings.
What We're Looking For
Candidates must have 6+ years of experience with strong Python skills, work experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Airflow, Terraform, Linux administration, and CI tooling, along with exposure to machine learning and large language models. Experience in startup environments is essential.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with Argo and cdk8s.
- Familiarity with Open Telemetry, Spacelift, CircleCI/GitHub Actions.
- Knowledge of Typescript and Go.
Flexibility and Logistics
This role is hybrid with company hubs in New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles. Exceptionally qualified remote candidates in the US and Canada may be considered. Visa sponsorship and relocation are not available.
