About the role

Senior Counsel

LaunchDarkly is seeking a Senior Counsel to enhance our growing legal department. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, this position will offer comprehensive legal support for a global SaaS enterprise, covering product, privacy, corporate, and employment law aspects.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive legal workstreams, applying sound judgment to balance legal risks with business objectives. This role is ideal for an attorney capable of independently managing specific legal areas while knowing when to escalate complex or ambiguous issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance to product, engineering, and go-to-market teams on data privacy, intellectual property, and compliance, with support from senior legal team members as needed.
  • Translate legal advice into clear, actionable recommendations for stakeholders, escalating higher-risk or novel issues appropriately.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including corporate agreements, IP licenses, and marketing contracts.
  • Contribute to the creation and upkeep of legal templates, playbooks, and processes to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support compliance initiatives and the implementation of company policies.
  • Partner with and manage external counsel for specialized legal expertise.
  • Assist with legal support for international operations, coordinating with outside counsel as necessary.
  • Help develop and deliver training to the organization on pertinent legal topics.
  • Advise on and assist with general legal matters as they arise.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and an active license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • Typically 6+ years of legal experience, including in-house or equivalent client-facing experience.
  • Proven experience providing legal counsel to SaaS companies.
  • Foundational knowledge of data privacy, intellectual property, and technology transactions.
  • Ability to manage a defined set of responsibilities and prioritize multiple tasks with guidance.
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders and integrating feedback into legal recommendations.

  • Experience supporting international transactions or working with non-US entities.

  • Contribute to the enhancement of at least one legal team process.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the company’s risk tolerance and escalation protocols.

Location and Work Arrangement

  • This role is based in the United States.
  • Ability to travel to the Oakland headquarters as needed.

Pay

Target pay ranges are based on Geographic Zones* for Level 4:

  • Zone 1: San Francisco/Bay Area or NYC Metropolitan Area, Boston, Seattle - $152,900 - $210,210
  • Zone 2: Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, Chicago - $137,600 - $189,200
  • Zone 3: All other US locations - $129,900 - $178,640

LaunchDarkly operates with high trust and transparency, and we are pleased to share our pay ranges to align with your needs. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. Geographic pay zones within the United States are defined by counties surrounding major metropolitan areas.
