Job Description
California Technology Transaction Attorney
Latitude Legal is seeking a senior Privacy & Technology Transactions Attorney to join a nationally recognized financial services law firm that serves as outside general counsel to credit unions and financial institutions across the country. This is a fully remote role with a long-term, permanent trajectory, though the firm is open to an engagement-to-hire structure for the right candidate.
The compensation range for this role is $215,000–$275,000.
About the Firm
The firm operates differently than a traditional law firm. It functions as embedded outside counsel for financial institutions, advising on the operational and regulatory realities of running a modern bank or credit union. This role centers on negotiating and structuring the technology and fintech agreements that drive clients’ operational infrastructure, from digital banking platforms and core systems to cloud providers and payment solutions.
The Role
The work is highly practical and commercially driven: structuring complex technology deals, allocating risk thoughtfully, and advising clients in real time on how vendor products actually operate in their environment. It is closer to being in-house for multiple institutions at once than it is to a traditional memo-heavy law firm role.
What You’ll Do
- Lead negotiation of technology vendor agreements for credit unions and banks (SaaS, hosted platforms, cloud services, licensing, fintech partnerships, payment systems, outsourcing arrangements);
- Advise clients on contract risk allocation: indemnities, limitation of liability, SLAs, termination rights, audit rights, data use, transition and exit provisions;
- Evaluate how vendor products are structured (hosted vs. on-prem, proprietary vs. licensed, integration points, data flows) and negotiate terms aligned with operational realities;
- Review vendor security, data processing, and incident response provisions and negotiate privacy-protective language;
- Issue-spot GLBA, CCPA, GDPR, and other financial-services–specific privacy considerations within commercial agreements;
- Counsel clients on third-party risk management expectations and regulator-facing considerations;
- Advise on IP ownership and licensing in fintech and technology collaborations;
- Serve as the primary negotiator with sophisticated fintech and vendor legal teams.
Who You Are
- 5+ years of experience negotiating complex technology and fintech agreements, though flexibility exists for candidates with highly relevant experience;
- Comfortable independently leading negotiations from first draft through execution;
- Experience in-house at a fintech company, bank, or credit union, or in a law firm practice deeply embedded in financial services technology transactions;
- Strong familiarity with vendor management structures and regulatory overlays applicable to financial institutions;
- Working knowledge of privacy and cybersecurity frameworks as they intersect with commercial technology contracts;
- Commercially minded and comfortable advising business clients in real time;
- Interested in long-term growth within a niche, financial-institution-focused practice;
- Licensed to practice law in California and in good standing (additional state licenses a plus);
- J.D. from an accredited law school;
- Outstanding references.
