Senior Controls Engineer

We’re seeking a full-time controls engineer to join our expanding team and contribute to the design, programming, and management of automation projects in the pharmaceutical and food & beverage industries at Senior Controls Engineer role in LAPORTE L.C.C.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design of automation projects using Allen-Bradley PLC/PACs and FactoryTalk View ME/SE HMI and SCADA.
  • Develop detailed construction packages including control panel drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules.
  • Mentor and supervise project team members to enhance collaboration.
  • Provide lifecycle support including system design, troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning.
  • Perform site surveys and offer on-site support during installations.
  • Ensure compliance with UL508A, NEC, and other relevant codes and standards.
  • Engage in diverse projects enhancing engineering and project management skills.

Travel Expectations

Travel requirements typically include 1-3 days for an initial site visit and potential return trips for 1-4 weeks of commissioning, with overall travel anticipated at 20-40%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of controls, manufacturing or consulting-design experience, including commissioning systems.
  • Proficient in automation project tasks, design, client coordination, and bid package preparation.
  • Skilled in control panel and network design, instrument selection, and control system programming.
  • Experienced with AutoCAD for control panel design and electrical construction packages.
  • Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation software—Studio 5000/RSLogix 5000 and FactoryTalk View ME/SE.
