Senior Controls Engineer

We’re seeking a full-time controls engineer to join our expanding team at LAPORTE L.C.C. and contribute to the design, programming, and management of automation projects in the pharmaceutical and food & beverage industries. With 25 years in consulting engineering, 25 offices across North America and Europe, and over 480 employees, LAPORTE offers a supportive work environment emphasizing professional growth and work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support automation project design, focusing on control panels, networks, and software (Allen-Bradley PLC/PACs, Factorytalk View ME/SE HMI, and SCADA).
  • Translate applications into detailed construction packages including schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel drawings.
  • Mentor and supervise project team members to enhance collaboration and execution.
  • Provide lifecycle project support including design, troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning.
  • Perform site surveys and support control system installation.
  • Ensure compliance with codes such as UL508A and NEC.
  • Engage in diverse projects to sharpen engineering and project management skills.

Travel

Travel typically involves 1-3 days for site visits and extended trips for commissioning (20-40% travel overall).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in control systems, manufacturing, or consulting-design environments.
  • Proficient in design, client coordination, and bid package preparation for automation projects.
  • Skilled in control panel design, network design, and control system programming.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and electrical construction packages.
  • Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation software including Studio 5000/RSLogix 5000 and FactoryTalk View ME/SE.
