The Customer Support Business Group at Lam Research is dedicated to providing premier customer support throughout the entire lifecycle of their engagement with Lam products. We focus on enhancing the performance, productivity, safety, and quality of our customers' installed base, delivering comprehensive service and lifecycle solutions for their most crucial equipment and processes.

The Impact You'll Make

As a Field Process Engineer at Lam Research, you will serve as a customer-focused expert on our equipment, continuously pushing boundaries to meet diverse customer needs. Your responsibilities include providing process support, conducting evaluations, and meticulously documenting process outputs for hardware modifications and upgrades. You will play a vital role in supporting customer installations, delivering essential training, and identifying critical design improvements in collaboration with product groups.

What You'll Do

  • Provide extensive process support, manage installations, resolve and improve process/system/productivity challenges, and develop new application processes for Lam equipment at customer sites.
  • Serve as a primary field support for Beta sites, evaluation projects, or initial-in-fab installations.
  • Design and execute experiments, collect and analyze data, generate detailed reports, and offer recommendations to optimize device architecture and process modules.
  • Collaborate closely with customers to fulfill requirements for new technology processes, support existing processes, and address process deviations through thorough root cause analysis.
  • Develop new or modified processes, define best known method process recipes, and partner with hardware engineering to specify chamber requirements and characterize hardware designs for optimal customer performance.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams and customers to understand their specific needs, technology roadmaps, process flows, requirements, and business challenges.
  • Represent Lam Research to our valued customers, consistently delivering exceptional customer satisfaction.
  • Present technical and marketing materials with a win-win mindset, ensuring customers are well-informed about products and services that address their needs.
  • Provide technical leadership, support, and instruction for Field Service Engineers, Technicians, sub-contractors, and customers on installations, repairs, operations, and coordinate the application of new procedures.
  • Collaborate with Field Service Engineers on complex problems that impact process output.
  • Coordinate statistical analysis of failure rates and develop continuous improvement plans (CIP).
  • Recommend design changes for key technical solutions and process development, while continuously monitoring performance trends.

Minimum Qualifications

We are seeking highly skilled individuals with the following qualifications:

  • PhD in Electronics, Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, or a related field; OR
  • Master of Science degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience; OR
  • Bachelor of Science degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including data analysis tools, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, alongside strong customer relationship abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cleanroom environment, which includes wearing personal protective safety equipment or a cleanroom suit, and being available on-call as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and/or Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Effective organizational skills and the capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, adapt to shifting priorities, and meet critical business needs and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams, customers, and partners.
  • A collaborative mindset, particularly within a matrixed environment.
