The Role

As a System Administrator at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You’ll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients – which means some of the biggest in the world.

Who You Are: Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Minimum 5–8 years of hands‑on experience as an IBM i (AS400 / iSeries) System Administrator supporting enterprise production environments.
  • Strong expertise in IBM i operating system administration, including system configuration, resource management, and performance tuning.
  • Proven experience managing production system availability, capacity, and overall operating system health.
  • Hands‑on experience in monitoring production operating systems and attached devices, identifying system anomalies, and ensuring stability.
  • Strong skills in root cause analysis (RCA) and resolution of OS‑level and infrastructure issues (excluding business application support), including appropriate escalation when required.
  • Experience in executing system recovery procedures for production operating systems and devices during incidents or outages.
  • Expertise in automated system startup and shutdown procedures for IBM i environments.
  • End‑to‑end ownership of system health, availability, and operational governance across production platforms.
  • Team lead–level exposure to IBM i OS upgrades, firmware upgrades, and PTF (Program Temporary Fix) implementation, including planning, execution, and post‑implementation validation.
  • Experience in ATL tape library / plug‑chart design and management, aligned with data center (DC) operational models.
  • Strong hands‑on troubleshooting experience with MIMIX High Availability (HA) solutions, including replication monitoring and recovery scenarios.
  • Proficiency in CL (Control Language) programming for automation, monitoring, and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Experience working in 24×7 mission‑critical environments, supporting SLAs and participating in on‑call rotations.

  • Check each system for outstanding messages and or batch abends on a regular basis.
  • Scan batch output to find actual cause of failure.
  • Able Identify task or issues that can be improved and send ticket to correct team.
  • Able to determine quickly the severity of a problem and make appropriate escalations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and consistently with all levels of the organization, and to work independently without direct supervision.
