Job Overview: Data Architect

One of kuubiik's clients is seeking a Data Architect with 4–5 years of experience to design, optimize, and manage scalable data systems. This critical role involves building robust database architectures, ensuring high performance, and enabling efficient data flow across applications, analytics, and AI layers. The ideal Data Architect will possess strong expertise in database design, performance optimization, and modern cloud-based data platforms, with the ability to support complex, data-driven applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain scalable and efficient database schemas, encompassing both normalized and denormalized models.
  • Optimize database performance through strategic indexing, meticulous query tuning, and in-depth execution plan analysis.
  • Manage and maintain diverse relational and NoSQL databases to ensure operational excellence.
  • Design and implement highly scalable database architectures, including replication, high availability, robust backups, and failover mechanisms.
  • Support the development and maintenance of ETL/ELT pipelines and efficient data ingestion workflows.
  • Ensure data structures are perfectly aligned with application, analytics, and AI requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and analytics teams to empower data-driven decision-making.
  • Implement stringent data security best practices, including encryption, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and precise access control measures.
  • Continuously monitor database performance and proactively troubleshoot any arising issues.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 4–5 years of proven experience in data engineering, database management, or data architecture roles.
  • Strong proficiency in database schema design, including normalized and denormalized models.
  • Deep understanding of relational databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL) and practical experience with at least one NoSQL system (e.g., MongoDB, Redis).
  • Expertise in performance tuning techniques such as indexing, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.
  • Extensive experience with scalable database architectures, including replication, high availability, backups, and failover strategies.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud-managed database platforms (e.g., AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, MongoDB Atlas, Neon, Supabase).
  • Experience in designing or supporting ETL/ELT pipelines and comprehensive data ingestion flows.
  • Demonstrated ability to structure data effectively for complex application workflows.
  • Solid understanding of data security fundamentals, including encryption, RBAC, and access control.

Great-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed or sharded systems (e.g., Citus, Vitess, CockroachDB, TiDB).
  • Familiarity with analytics stacks (e.g., dbt, Snowflake, Google BigQuery).
  • Knowledge of event streaming or real-time pipelines (e.g., Apache Kafka, Redpanda, AWS Kinesis).
  • Understanding of vector databases or hybrid search systems (e.g., Qdrant, Pinecone, Elasticsearch).
  • Prior experience working in data-heavy SaaS environments or complex financial workflows.
