The Controller will operate in a multi-client environment, supporting 15 to 20 startup clients across various exciting industries. This role is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and executing all aspects of financial management, accounting, and consulting processes.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 8+ years of corporate accounting experience.
  • Accounting experience in a multi-client environment.
  • Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, and cost control principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting best practices, U.S. GAAP, laws, standards, and regulations.
  • Solid experience with QuickBooks Online (certification is a plus).
  • Advanced proficiency with spreadsheet software (MS Excel and Google Sheets).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to work core business hours in your local time zone (approx. 8am to 5pm).
  • Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to execute a high volume of nuanced tasks.

Position Preferences

  • Licensed CPA or actively pursuing CPA certification.
  • Master's degree in Accounting.

What You’ll Be Doing

Financial Reporting and Analysis (65% of the time)
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements).
  • Generate accurate financial reports for management and stakeholders.
  • Review and evaluate the work of other accounting staff.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity through recording, reconciling, and analyzing transactions; final sign-off on the ledger.
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships as the primary financial contact.
  • Provide due diligence support for audits, fundraising, and M&A activities.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on key financial metrics, trends, and variances.
  • Provide clients with accurate and timely financial information for decision-making.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support client business initiatives, investment decisions, and cost optimization.
  • Offer financial insights and recommendations to client management for strategic planning.
Other Billable-Related Work (10% of the time)
  • Perform ad hoc assignments as requested by clients.
  • Create and implement client-specific procedures for monthly financial accuracy.
  • Support the Kruze Tax Team with State and Local compliance, Sales and Use Tax Reporting, and year-end tax preparation.
Mentor and Coach Junior Accounting Staff (10% of the time)
  • Connect and collaborate virtually, developing trusting relationships.
  • Review, evaluate, and provide feedback on junior staff work quality.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to facilitate junior staff development.
  • Communicate effectively, managing tone, expectations, and contingencies.
Compliance (5% of the time)
  • Stay informed about bookkeeping, tax filing, HR standards, and government regulations.
  • Maintain compliance documentation for each client.
  • Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas.
Administrative (5% of the time)
  • Submit, approve, and track maintenance projects.
  • Review and invoice clients for time spent on special consulting projects.
  • Monitor billable hours across clients.
Other (5% of the time)
  • Participate in required training and internal meetings.
