The Team and Role
Kraken currently maintains over a dozen products available 24/7 globally, covering basic financial operations like deposits and withdrawals, as well as advanced features such as staking, spot trading, instant buy/sell, margin, futures, and an NFT marketplace. The Exchange Operations team is responsible for the day-to-day operation of these products and services, acting as the primary operators of the platform built by the Product & Engineering team. This could involve updating margin system parameters in response to market volatility or addressing issues that may occur at any time, as crypto never sleeps.
The Opportunity for an Exchange/Platform Operations Manager
- Manage a dedicated team focused on system stability and day-to-day exchange product operations for Spot, Margin, and Derivatives markets.
- Provide critical 'middle-office' support and be accountable for defining and implementing robust processes and practices across all products.
- Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, compliance, finance, and client support to drive innovation, automation, continuous improvement, and auditability in trading operations.
- Utilize technology developed by Product & Engineering to update configurations, implement new risk controls, launch or remove markets, and generally manage the platform effectively.
- Serve as the primary point of resolution for client issues, minimizing the need for Product & Engineering involvement in adjustments.
- Identify and resolve operational coverage gaps within Product & Engineering (PDE) teams.
- Clearly demonstrate the value of operations work to Product, Engineering, and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee the governance of trading policies and procedures.
- Guide the product development of internal tools, such as the futures admin panel and exchange control center.
Skills You Should HODL
- Must have 3+ years of experience operating similar platforms, such as CFD exchanges, traditional finance exchanges, trading desks, or other cryptocurrency exchanges.
- Possess broad technical knowledge of tech stack architecture and underlying processes.
- Strong data and quantitative skills, including proficiency in SQL and Python for analyzing medium-sized datasets.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers to diagnose and resolve product issues.
- Proven ability to act as a liaison between Customer Support, Product & Engineering, Operational Resilience, Compliance, Finance, and Accounting.
- Strong familiarity with financial market products, ideally including cryptocurrency.
- Ability to think quickly and make sound decisions in a 24/7 highly volatile environment.
- Essential honesty and integrity when discussing system issues and testing; humility is a key requirement.
- An ability to delegate effectively while also being willing to get hands-on, understanding the balance between effective management and micromanagement.
