The Team
Kraken maintains over a dozen products available 24/7 globally. These include essential financial services operations like depositing, withdrawing, and identity verification, alongside innovative products such as staking, spot trading, instant buy/sell, margin, futures, and an NFT marketplace.
The Exchange Operations team acts as the day-to-day operators of these products and services, built by the Product & Engineering team. This could involve updating margin system parameters in response to anticipated volatility. The team is high-energy, ready to address platform issues whenever they arise, as crypto never sleeps.
The Opportunity
As an Exchange/Platform Operations Manager, you will:
- Manage a team with a focus on system stability, collaborating with the Operational Resilience incident response team and overseeing daily exchange product operations.
- Support and manage Spot, Margin, and Derivatives markets.
- Be accountable for implementing and defining robust processes and practices across all products.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, compliance, finance, and client support to drive innovation, automation, continuous improvement, and auditability in trading operations.
- Utilize technology developed by Product & Engineering to update configurations, add new risk controls, launch/remove markets, and generally manage the platform.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for adjustments to resolve client issues, minimizing the need for Product & Engineering involvement.
- Identify and resolve gaps in operational coverage for Product, Engineering, and Design (PDE) teams.
- Articulate the value of operations work to Product, Engineering, and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee the governance of trading policies and procedures.
- Supervise the product development of internal tools such as futures admin and the exchange control center.
Skills You Should HODL
- 3+ years of experience operating similar platforms (e.g., CFD, traditional financial exchanges, trading desks, other crypto exchanges).
- Technical knowledge of a tech stack and underlying system operations.
- Strong data and quantitative skills, including proficiency in SQL and Python for analyzing medium-sized datasets.
- Ability to effectively communicate with customers to diagnose product issues.
- Adept at liaising between Customer Support, Product & Engineering, Operational Resilience, Compliance, Finance, and Accounting teams.
- Strong familiarity with financial market products, ideally including cryptocurrency.
- Ability to think on your feet and make decisions in a 24/7 highly volatile environment.
- Demonstrated honesty and integrity in discussing system issues and testing; humility is also a key requirement.
- An ability to delegate effectively while also being willing to get hands-on, understanding the balance between effective management and micromanagement.
