This entry-level role is ideal for a recent graduate from a Computer Science, Software Development, or Software Engineering discipline with strong writing and communication skills. You will leverage your scientific/technical knowledge to assist companies with the preparation of the scientific/technical aspects of R&D tax credit claims. You will work closely with diverse companies within Ireland’s dynamic tech landscape, identifying and documenting eligible R&D activities.
Please note: This job does not involve any programming or software development.
Key Responsibilities and Achievements
- Assisting the R&D team in providing advice to software clients regarding the eligibility of activities for the R&D tax credit, including attending meetings, liaising with clients’ technical leads, and reviewing internal documents.
- Researching and resolving both general and client-specific queries related to the scientific/technical aspects of the R&D tax credit.
- Gathering technical information from clients’ R&D teams and drafting technical reports detailing qualifying R&D projects.
- Planning, organising, and executing R&D engagements on time and within budget.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with our clients.
- Prior experience with the R&D tax credit is NOT necessary; KPMG will provide specialised training.
What We Look For (Your Peer Group Snapshot)
- Third-level degree (minimum 2.1 grade) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Programming, Software Architecture, Software Development, or equivalent.
- One year of experience in research and development projects in industry or academia is a bonus.
- One year of experience in a programming environment within the software industry is ideal, particularly basic knowledge and experience throughout the software development lifecycle and basic programming with modern tools/environments (a bonus).
- Demonstrable technical report writing skills.
- Exceptional oral and written communication capabilities, with the ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with clients’ R&D teams.
- Willingness to assume responsibility, ownership, and accountability.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to work independently on multiple client projects simultaneously.
- Strong organisational skills.

The team comprises individuals with diverse backgrounds in science, engineering, computer science, tax, and finance. We collaborate to use our multidisciplinary skills to achieve the best outcomes for our clients. We work with multinational and indigenous software companies (including many of the largest MNCs) to help them claim Research and Development incentives (primarily the R&D tax credit) for their investment in R&D activities in Ireland.
