Data & Analytics Architect - KPMG Canada

The Data and Analytics Architect is responsible for designing, managing, and optimizing data architecture on the Microsoft Azure Cloud platform.
What You Will Do
- Develop comprehensive data architectures that align with business requirements, including data models, storage solutions, data pipelines, and analytics frameworks on the Azure platform.
- Architect, model, and document scalable data solutions using Databricks Unity Catalog and Microsoft Fabric, ensuring alignment with organization business strategy.
- Implement robust governance frameworks, manage data lineage and access policies using Unity Catalog and Microsoft Fabric’s security features.
- Design and implement cloud-based solutions for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
- Utilize Azure services like Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Blob Storage, and more to build scalable and secure data solutions.
- Design, develop, and maintain data integration workflows, ETL/ELT processes using Azure Data Factory or similar tools to ingest, transform, and load data from various sources.
- Design and enforce data access controls, encryption, masking, and other security measures to protect sensitive data.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define data management strategies, including data retention, archiving, and backup solutions.
- Work closely with data engineers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and provide architectural guidance.
- Communicate technical solutions effectively to non-technical stakeholders and ensure alignment with business goals.
- Optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing performance to enhance the efficiency and scalability of data solutions.
- Proactively identify and resolve data-related issues, ensuring high availability and reliability of data services.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data architects, data engineers, and other team members.
- Lead architectural discussions, code reviews, documentation, and design sessions to promote best practices and high-quality solutions.
- Continuously evaluate and improve the data architecture and related processes, incorporating feedback, industry trends, and new technologies.
What You Bring To The Role
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud data services.
- 7 to 10 years of experience as an Architect in data Analytics domain.
- Expertise in data modeling, database design, and data warehousing.
- Experience with ETL/ELT processes, data integration, and data pipeline orchestration.
- Proficiency in SQL, NoSQL, Python, Spark, and other relevant technologies.
- Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Experience in configuring and implementing Azure Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Server Data Warehouse and Azure SQL Server DB.
- Proven experience designing and managing solutions in Microsoft Fabric (including data lakes, data warehouses, and analytics services) and Databricks Unity Catalog.
- Good understanding of AZURE components, storage & compute services.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, such as Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experienced in Data modelling and data architecture design.
- Experience with Data testing, including ability to create test plans, test cases, execute test cycles, etc.
- Experience is creating the efforts estimation, timelines for all new projects/programs.
- Understanding of Azure networking fundamentals, including Virtual Networks (VNets), subnets, Azure Private Link, and ExpressRoute.
- Knowledge of resource provisioning, management, and scaling using Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates or Terraform.
- Stay current with the latest Azure offerings and best practices for data architecture, storage, and analytics.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI for creating dashboards, reports, and analytics solutions.
- Certifications: Holding relevant certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert considered an asset.
This position requires written and oral fluency in English. The successful candidate will be required to support or collaborate with English-speaking colleagues or stakeholders nationally in our English speaking provinces while at KPMG.
KPMG BC Region Pay Range Information
The expected base salary range for this position is $104,000 to $156,500 and may be eligible for bonus awards. The determination of an applicant’s base salary within this range is based on the individual’s location, skills & competencies, and unique qualifications. In addition, KPMG offers a comprehensive and competitive Total Rewards program.
