Job Description
SIM & Device Engineer
The SIM and Device Engineer role, reporting to the Senior Director SIM Engineering, is responsible for the delivery of technical specifications and managing the comprehensive delivery of SIM profiles and applets for SIM, eSIM, eUICC, and iSIM products. A thorough understanding of device, SIM, and network interactions and flows is essential, as you will play a pivotal role in ensuring KORE secures and retains substantial new business. Collaborating closely with KORE’s Pre-Sales, Sales, Product & Network Engineering teams, you must be outcome-oriented, proficient in prioritization, and adept at managing stakeholder expectations.
You will fault-find various IoT applications, providing detailed technical expertise and summarizing issues simply. You'll coordinate cross-functionally to resolve problems and create customer-facing guides and reports.
Responsibilities of the SIM & Device Engineer
- Manage KORE SIM profiles development and its complete lifecycle from design all the way up to deployment.
- Create and maintain profile specs, validate new SIM & applet products, ensure interoperability with SIM and common IoT modules for product launch and go-to-market activities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with SIM manufacturers on a day-to-day basis.
- Provide technical expertise, evidenced by possessing a comprehensive understanding of devices, SIM cards, networks, and the associated tools for logging and fault diagnosis.
- Assist the SIM Engineering team and Product Management in implementing new technology trials (e.g., eUICC, 5G, iSIM), including sourcing test equipment and conducting quality assurance tests.
- Manage queries about SIM products and serve as the subject-matter expert on SIM and applet capabilities for internal stakeholders.
- Help troubleshoot SIM-related customer issues and advise customers on SIM and applet compatibility.
- Lead cross-functional coordination to satisfactory closure for issue resolution, providing timely, responsive, and consistently high-quality support to our stakeholders/customer troubleshooting calls.
- Manage your time effectively, balancing priorities and workload through clear and consistent prioritization and decision-making.
- Manage and report the status of issues, with clear ownership, next steps, and timescales, keeping your stakeholders informed and managing expectations.
- Close the loop on root cause analysis, using data to create actionable recommendations for longer-term remediations/future product improvements.
- Actively contribute to KORE’s knowledge management materials.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Expertise in new SIM architectures, SIM applets (e.g., Multi-IMSI), key management, cryptographic functions, SIM secure elements, and SIM card applet development.
- In-depth knowledge of authentication algorithms (e.g., Milenage), processes, and mechanisms, and essential algorithms (e.g., 3DES, AES, RSA, ECC, etc.).
- Experience of Key Ceremony, proven experience of BAP/BAT process.
- Experience with Wireshark/PCAP logging, Netscout for network monitoring/call flow tracing. Comprion or SIMtrace, QXDM, hardware logs, AT commands/consoles.
- Understanding of 2G/3G/4G/5G network architecture, network service provisioning, Over the Air (OTA, SCP02, 80 and 81), Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP), and 3GPP protocols.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards: 3GPP 31.111, 31.102, ISO 7816, ETSI 102 221, 102 223, 102 671, GSMA SGP 02, 22, etc.
- Passion for working on new technologies in a fast-paced and frequently changing environment.
- Ability to analyze and correlate test results, producing conclusions and recommendations to KORE’s Leadership team.
- Experience with technical writing including creating guides/technical reports.
- Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Detailed understanding of core network design (Layer 4+).
- IoT module test/development experience (e.g., Quectel, u-blox, Telit).
- IoT device firmware development/test experience (e.g., Teltonika, customer specific).
- Experience with software development using Java, C, and/or Python, SIM APDU/applet development/test experience.
