Job Description

About KOHO

We’re on a mission to make financial services better for every Canadian. That means no hidden fees, no predatory interest rates - just financial products designed to help our users spend smart, save more, and build real wealth. We’re a performance organization with a strong heart: we care deeply about outcomes, and everything ties back to our mission - to financially empower a generation of Canadians.

At KOHO, we’re not your average 9-5. We believe real impact comes from people who are trusted, empowered, and supported to do their best work - without sacrificing their lives to do it. We prioritize work-life integration, not just work-life balance. That means asynchronous collaboration, flexible hours, and a remote-first setup built around autonomy and high trust.

KOHO is entering its next chapter - leaner, smarter, more AI-integrated. We’re building for impact, not bureaucracy. If you thrive in environments that value clarity, ownership, and bold thinking, you’ll fit right in.

KOHO’s purpose is to empower Canadians to build a great financial foundation with products that are radically transparent and easy to manage. We first launched in 2017, and we have since built a community of over 1 million users. Leading investors around the globe believe in our vision, and we’ve successfully raised over $320M to make our vision a reality. The KOHO collective has grown to 250 employees to date.

About The Role

We’re looking for a Manager, Financial Reporting to join our team for a role to work remotely based in Canada. Reporting to the Director, Financial Accounting & Reporting, you’re going to be a part of a team that is transforming our finance function into a "bank-grade" operation. This is a pivotal role where you will not only lead the monthly financial reporting process but also define the technical accounting standards and regulatory reporting framework for our future bank entity. You will be the technical anchor for the team, elevating our reporting quality to meet the rigorous demands of OSFI and external auditors.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Financial reporting: Leading the production of accurate, timely, and compliant monthly consolidated financial statements and regulatory returns, ensuring audit scrutiny.
  • Technical lead: Researching and documenting complex accounting positions under IFRS (including IFRS 9 and new product launches), ensuring we have a defensible and documented approach for every major decision.
  • People management: Managing a team of Senior Accountants responsible for month end close, deep technical work and operational accounting (including accounts payable, vendor payments, invoicing).
  • Internal controls and compliance: Partnering with the Director to build and test a robust internal controls framework, moving us to a mature and controlled environment. Responsible for tax compliance.
  • AI and automation: Actively exploring and implementing AI tools to automate routine reporting and research tasks, driving a culture of continuous technological improvement within the team.
  • Bank transition work: Assisting with the overall transition to a schedule 1 Bank, by delivering on financial reporting requirements, designing and implementing robust internal controls and establishing regulatory reporting processes for a regulated financial institution.

Who You Are

  • Designated & Experienced: You hold a CPA designation with 5-7+ years of progressive experience, ideally with a mix of Big 4 audit and industry reporting (fintech or banking experience is a major asset).
  • Technical Heavyweight: You have deep, hands-on expertise with IFRS (especially financial instruments) and are comfortable writing technical memos that can stand up to external audit partner review.
  • Tax Savvy: You have functional experience with Canadian corporate and indirect tax compliance, confident in reviewing tax provisions and coordinating with external tax specialists.
  • AI Curious & Capable: You have some hands-on experience with AI tools (LLMs, automation) to streamline workflows, but more importantly, you possess a strong interest in leveraging AI to modernize the finance function.
  • People Leader: You have proven experience managing or supervising accountants, with a passion for reviewing work, providing feedback, and elevating the technical skills of your direct reports.
  • Process Architect: You don't just follow a checklist; you look for ways to optimize the month-end close, improve data quality from source systems, and implement controls that make the audit smoother every year.
