Job Description

About the Role: Intermediate Civil Engineer

As an experienced Civil Engineer with a strong interest in water resources or geotechnical engineering, you will engage in exciting, multi-faceted, high-profile projects across Calgary and Western Canada. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to expand your academic training, people skills, and professional practice by developing and implementing technical solutions, collaborating with other disciplines and sub-consultants, managing and coordinating project teams, and maintaining close liaison with client representatives.

You will be an integral part of Klohn Crippen Berger's award-winning Infrastructure group in Alberta, advancing your career within a 'One Team' culture that fosters strong, collaborative, and focused teams. We highly value a winning attitude, a commitment to continuous learning and innovation, adaptability, respectful engagement with both team members and clients, and a sense of enjoyment in our work.

This Role Will Give You The Opportunity To:

  • Serve as the project coordinator on challenging infrastructure projects that encompass civil, hydrotechnical, geotechnical, hydrogeological, environmental, and regulatory disciplines. This will significantly expand your technical toolbox, project management capabilities, client liaison skills, and business acumen.
  • Diversify and build upon your technical skills across a variety of civil engineering and water resources projects. These may involve surface water hydrology, numerical flow modeling, stormwater systems and retention ponds, water and wastewater networks, dams and hydraulic structures, mine water management systems, river bank erosion and flood protection works, and dam safety related assignments.
  • Be involved in all project stages, from initial concept to completion. Responsibilities include undertaking design, preparing design reports, drawings, specifications, and tender documents, providing support throughout the tender process, and managing construction contracts while offering technical guidance.
  • Develop your project management skills under the mentorship of senior engineers and scientists. You will act as a primary project contact, learn to cultivate long-term relationships with key clients and sub-consultants, and manage technical resources, sub-consultant input, project costs, and schedules.
  • Manage and mentor junior engineers, actively contributing to their professional growth and career development.
  • Broaden your professional expertise by working on multi-disciplinary engineering projects, while maintaining your core focus on civil engineering principles.
  • Work across Western Canada with potential opportunities for international travel.
  • Thrive in a dynamic company culture within a diverse, hands-on, small, and dedicated office team that actively supports career development and diversification.

What Klohn Crippen Berger Values:

  • Extensive civil engineering work experience in multi-disciplinary municipal and infrastructure projects.
  • Strong initiative, innovative thinking, commitment to technical excellence and continuous learning, enthusiasm, and a drive towards long-term success.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience contributing to proposals, technical reports, presentations to clients, providing clear direction to project teams and sub-consultants, and managing general project correspondence.
  • Exceptional team spirit, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build lasting, successful relationships with clients and project teams.
  • Solid time management and organizational skills.
