Forensic Analyst at KLDiscovery
KLDiscovery, a leading national eDiscovery provider, is actively seeking a Forensic Analyst. In this role, you will be instrumental in managing and conducting investigations related to data collections, forensic data, and detailed file, email analysis, alongside data recovery across a diverse range of environments. You will collaborate with both internal and external clients, offering consulting and advisory services to define their data collection, processing, and reporting requirements.
A critical aspect of this position involves providing expert consultancy on data collection and investigations. You will execute comprehensive forensic analysis, from initial collection through to in-depth analysis and reporting, utilizing industry-standard tools such as EnCase, FTK, XWays, Axiom, Cellebrite, or NUIX. Additionally, you will offer crucial technical advice to Sales and Business Development teams, including joint consultancy during project scoping phases.
This is a remote, work-from-home opportunity, requiring weekly travel to Dallas. Candidates must reside in or around the Dallas area.
Responsibilities
- Consult with key stakeholders to define requirements, scope projects, and deliver consulting solutions for effective data collection, investigations, and reporting.
- Collaborate with the project team to establish and execute computer forensic protocols, processes, and maintain the chain of custody for each investigation or engagement.
- Draft comprehensive reports, affidavits, and depositions, and provide expert court testimony when necessary.
- Conduct or assist with the forensic acquisition and preservation of electronic data from various IT environments and platforms, including social media and mobile devices.
- Participate in on-site and remote imaging and data capture activities.
- Coordinate and meticulously track all electronic collection activities, ensuring adherence to computer forensic protocols and maintaining thorough project lifecycle documentation.
- Perform full Computer Forensic analysis using established tools and techniques.
- Execute analytical analysis focused on datasets such as computer operating system logs, pen trap data, hard drives, mobile phones, log-ins, and activity connections.
- Apply network theory and data mining concepts to uncover relationships, patterns, trends, statistics, link analysis, timeline analysis, and data visualization techniques.
- Adhere to expected timelines for customer deliverables and reports, aligning with customer objectives based on forensic findings.
- Follow accepted forensic protocol to capture media images and conduct necessary analysis to provide output and reports, meeting customer objectives within specified timelines.
- Maintain professional communication with customers via all channels, including direct contact, voice, email, and fax, demonstrating fluent, comprehensive, and professional interaction.
- Provide a high level of customer service and technical support as required, assisting case managers with customer conference calls, questions, and clarifying reports and output data.
- Master proper methods and techniques for conducting forensic investigations and develop advanced skills for larger-scale computer forensic investigations.
- Be available for an on-call program, potentially requiring 24/7 availability at times to meet project deadlines, which may involve long hours and shift work.
- Contribute to documentation and training for engineers and sales teams, and undertake temporary departmental work as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in a science-related field or a technical school certificate, coupled with 3+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Hands-on experience with laptops, desktops, and other computing devices.
- Strong understanding of Network Architectures.
- Familiarity with KLDiscovery's proprietary Ontrack Data Recovery Tool (training provided for new hires to achieve basic proficiency).
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proven experience with analysis and reporting tools such as EnCase, FTK, XWays, Axiom, Cellebrite, or NUIX.
- Extensive hands-on experience in forensic investigations of systems.
- Proficiency in LAN support, troubleshooting, auditing, and identifying security risks.
- Experience with administration of Windows-based systems and networks.
- Experience with administration of non-Windows based systems and networks (e.g., Linux/Netware).
- Background in civil or criminal investigations.
- Good or excellent Report/Affidavit drafting skills.
- Some or substantial testifying experience.
- Ability to travel occasionally, up to 25%.
