Role Overview

One of our clients is collaborating with a leading AI lab on a large-scale supervised fine-tuning (SFT) initiative focused on improving historical reasoning, contextual understanding, and long-form written responses in advanced language models. We are seeking History PhD Experts to contribute as independent contractors by creating and refining historically grounded prompts and responses. This opportunity is ideal for native English-speaking scholars interested in applying rigorous academic historical training to frontier AI research in a flexible, project-based environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Author historically accurate prompts spanning global, regional, and thematic history topics
• Review and revise AI-generated responses for factual correctness, nuance, and historiographic soundness
• Write expert-level “gold standard” responses for complex, ambiguous, or interpretive historical questions
• Create controlled prompt variations to test differences in scope, framing, chronology, and interpretation
• Evaluate model outputs across varying lengths, styles, and instructional constraints
• Identify edge cases where models struggle with chronology, causality, sourcing, or historical interpretation

Ideal Qualifications

• PhD in History or a closely related field
• Native English speaker
• Demonstrated experience with archival research, historiography, or academic publication
• Strong command of historical methodology and source evaluation
• Excellent written communication skills and attention to factual precision
• Ability to work independently and exercise careful editorial judgment

Engagement Details

• Remote and fully asynchronous — set your own schedule
• Expected commitment: 10–25 hours per week
• Multi-month, project-based engagement with potential extensions
• All work performed on a freelance basis

Compensation & Contract Terms

• $60–$75 per hour, depending on experience and specialization
• Weekly payments via supported payment platforms
• Independent contractor classification
• Project scope may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on performance and business needs
• No access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution
