Geoscientist - AI Trainer
Engagement: Hourly contract (independent contractor)Rate: USD 55-104/hour
Job Summary
We are seeking a Geoscientist – AI Trainer to contribute subject matter expertise at the intersection of Earth sciences and artificial intelligence. In this remote role, you will apply your geological knowledge to train and refine AI models used in environmental analysis, resource exploration, and geospatial applications. Your expertise will help ensure scientific accuracy, data integrity, and real-world relevance in AI-driven geoscience solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to develop, review, and validate AI training datasets derived from geological surveys, field studies, and research data
- Analyze and interpret geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to support AI model training and validation
- Classify, annotate, and evaluate Earth science datasets to improve algorithm performance
- Apply expertise in mineralogy, stratigraphy, seismology, and related disciplines to guide AI understanding of complex geoscientific concepts
- Assess natural hazard risks (e.g., earthquakes, volcanic activity, landslides) and support AI training for early detection and analysis
- Prepare clear, comprehensive documentation explaining scientific methodologies and findings
- Support the development and continuous improvement of AI-driven solutions for environmental management, land use, and resource exploration
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related field
- Proven experience in geological data collection, fieldwork, and analytical interpretation
- Proficiency in geoscience software, geophysical tools, and data visualization platforms
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary or remote team environments
- Foundational understanding of AI concepts or willingness to work within AI training workflows
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in roles such as project geologist, environmental geologist, mineralogist, stratigrapher, or seismologist
- Familiarity with AI data annotation, labeling, or technical model training processes
- Experience mentoring or communicating complex scientific concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
