Culinary Associate II at Kettering Health

Responsibilities & Requirements

The Culinary Associate II performs basic food preparation and service tasks for retail areas, catering, ingredient room, and/or patient Room Service line. This role handles food in accordance with HACCP principles and applicable food codes, and safely uses, cleans, and cares for equipment and work areas. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Accurately manages position paperwork and processes, including order-taking, preparation, cash register operations, cash-ups, temperature monitoring forms (refrigerator, freezer, serving line), food weighing/measuring, Room Service records, tray time paperwork, and Physician Lounge/catering event charging paperwork.
  • Follows correct hand hygiene procedures, washing hands after handling money and before handling food, and using gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods.
  • Utilizes appropriate scripting and responds effectively to patients and internal/external customers, employing the HEAL principle, describing coffee drinks and products, knowing ingredients and allergens, and promoting collaboration with Dish Room staff, Supervisors, and colleagues.
  • Effectively and safely uses position equipment, performing applicable cleaning and sanitation procedures for items such as coffee brewers, espresso machines, display equipment, grills, fryers, and scales.
  • Correctly date-marks food items, monitors for temperature control, and adheres to First In First Out (FIFO) food storage procedures, following FDA guidelines and minimizing time temperature-controlled for safety (TCS) foods are out of refrigeration.
  • Prepares, assembles, serves, cooks, or bakes food and beverages according to established guidelines and recipes.
  • As assigned, accurately handles cash and manages sales transactions through MyMicros software, routinely maintaining accuracy within ± $2.00 or less at the end of a shift, and processing credit card and gift card transactions per guidelines.

Job Qualifications

Candidates must be able to walk and stand for long periods, push and pull wheeled carts, communicate effectively, and follow oral and written instructions. The role requires tolerating frequent temperature changes and working around equipment that generates heat, steam, and cold.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Food Service Or Customer Service Experience Preferred.
