Position Summary

As a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Karius, you will join the Computational Biomarker Discovery team, analyzing complex biological data to unlock signatures for precision medicine beyond infectious diseases, including autoimmune disorders and oncology. You will design analysis plans, develop computational workflows, and integrate biological rationale with data-driven insights under the direction of the Director, Computational Biomarker Discovery.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead data analysis of complex biological datasets including NGS, metagenomics, transcriptomics, fragmentomics, and single-cell analysis.
  • Create or adapt computational tools and algorithms to support biomarker discovery.
  • Drive bioinformatics aspects of cross-functional research projects in close collaboration with scientific and medical leaders.
  • Conduct deep exploration of the interplay between molecular data and disease conditions.
  • Deliver preliminary biological signatures to inform translational science and precision medicine.
  • Partner in experimental design, methodology selection, and computational analysis.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to support new partnerships and products.
  • Ensure data integrity, quality control and rigorous documentation.
  • Communicate progress and results to stakeholders on a weekly basis.
  • Continuously grow knowledge in biological sciences and emerging technologies.

Travel & Physical Requirements

Remote employees travel quarterly to HQ. Work is primarily office-based, requiring periods of sitting/standing with moderate noise levels.

Position Requirements

  • Ph.D. (or Master’s with sufficient industry experience) in a related field.
  • Publications demonstrating innovative computational models.
  • Strong background in modern statistics, machine learning and analysis of high-dimensional datasets.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics tools, particularly NGS data analysis.
  • Familiarity with exploratory study and clinical trial design and analyses.
