Structural Metallics Materials Application Engineer
The Structural Metallics Materials Application Engineer (MAE) provides critical materials expertise and technical leadership across various material systems and components. This role primarily focuses on the development and application of metallic materials and processes within the aviation supply chain. Working with both new product development and legacy teams, the MAE is instrumental in solving complex technical challenges, directly impacting short-term and long-term business goals. Successful execution requires strong partnerships with design, sourcing, and quality teams to ensure robust technical solutions for customers. This specific role emphasizes hot and cold section structural materials across multiple aviation programs.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Support and drive the qualifications of new forge and heat treat equipment, ensuring robust processes and supporting supply chain capacity improvements.
- Prepare and present comprehensive technical data to internal and external customers.
- Provide crucial support to the supply chain, including attending audits and pre-production meetings.
- Participate on business and industry teams to support overall improvement in the application of special processes for critical rotating parts.
- Offer technical and strategic support to the supply chain through attendance at audits/reviews and pre-production meetings.
- Define precise technical specifications and establish clear process limits.
- Share engineering information effectively and promote open dialogue within the team and with partners.
- Assure proper documentation of all technical data generated for assigned projects and tasks, consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
- Participate on dedicated teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives.
- Utilize FLIGHT DECK tools and actively participate in daily management routines.
- Travel, as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in disciplinary and/or materials engineering and science.
Desired Characteristics
- Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgy.
- Experience with aerospace or gas turbine industry manufacturing, quality systems, and field support.
- Experience with primary processing (forge & heat treatment) of rotating part forgings.
- In-depth understanding of metallurgy, manufacturing processes, and inspections such as forging, heat treatment, casting, and coating systems.
- In-depth understanding of the supply chain.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Effective problem identification and solution skills.
- Proven analytical and organizational ability.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively in teams.
- Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
- Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.
- Desire to perform highly technical work.
