Job Description

Smart Grid Application Engineer at Leidos

Leidos is seeking a Smart Grid Application Engineer to operate and manage Smart Grid Advanced Metering Infrastructure applications, interfaces, and web portal systems, supporting utility industry clients. This role is critical for ensuring compliance with specifications and maintaining system performance for vital utility operations.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to clients promptly and professionally, meticulously documenting issues.
  • Coordinate vendor activities and adhere to implementation procedures.
  • Monitor application and system performance, providing status reports and escalating problems as needed.
  • Receive and respond to service desk tickets and automated alerts efficiently.
  • Provide principal on-site AMI technical and product support to clients.
  • Resolve technical problems and effectively communicate solutions to peers and management.
  • Perform work independently on moderately complex projects.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with business partners and clients on production outages, resolution strategies, and root cause information.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to the SGS Support team, keeping customers updated.
  • Analyze and resolve production system faults.
  • Review, analyze, and resolve AMI alerts, events, and statuses.
  • Quickly and effectively troubleshoot software application issues.
  • Review, test, and manage the implementation and integration of AMI device firmware and server software.
  • Manage small projects and assist with project startup activities.
  • Perform new meter installation transaction monitoring.
  • Manage AMI schedule collection to ensure service level agreement compliance.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge base information, application documentation, and procedures.
  • Manage file system archiving and retention policies.
  • Perform AMI device asset management, including programs, IP configurations, locations, monitoring, warranty tracking, and failure modes.
  • Ensure work complies with Leidos' Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), systems development life cycle methodology, policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Multi-task and prioritize effectively within a high-volume, time-sensitive environment.
  • Support on-call on a rotating schedule for a 24/7/365 operation in addition to daily support assignments.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the Utilities industry, Meter Data Management Systems, and AMI systems is highly beneficial.
  • Experience with web-services is desired.
  • Customer service oriented with strong attention to detail and a sense of urgency.
  • Solid understanding of IT technology, including networking, databases, applications, and hardware.
  • Knowledge of systems methodologies, design, and implementation principles.
  • Strong analytical skills and proven problem-solving techniques.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL principles and best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively both within a team environment and individually with minimum supervision.
  • Possess excellent written, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Experience

  • 2 to 5+ years of experience working on or with technical teams.
  • 2 to 5+ years of experience managing small projects.
  • 3+ years of application support experience.

Education

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
