Moodle LMS Specialist - 100% Remote Contract

TEKsystems is seeking a Moodle LMS Specialist for a 3-month, 100% remote contract position. This role focuses on the hands-on implementation and configuration of a Moodle-based Learning Management System and learner dashboard.

Key Responsibilities

• Moodle Configuration & Theming: Configure Moodle core and plugins for SCORM 1.2 Captivate modules and MP4 video delivery. Implement a responsive learner dashboard UX with DHW branding.
• Learning Structure & Logic: Set up development pathways, badges, and tier gating. Implement auto-assignment for new users and provide fallback options.
• ILT (Instructor-Led Training) Features: Configure online registration, waitlists, capacity limits, session calendars, and filters. Enable roster upload and completion recording.
• Notifications & Communications: Implement email and in-app alerts for assignments, reminders, overdue items, completions, and approvals.
• Reporting & Transcripts: Deliver reports by user, course, date range, and pathway. Configure branded transcripts and enable external certificate uploads.
• Versioning & Retirement: Enforce completions by course version and archive courses while retaining certificate access.
• Security, Accessibility, and Compliance: Ensure secure authentication (MFA for admins), HTTPS/TLS, password policies, and audit logs. Guide content owners on accessibility standards (ADA Title II / WCAG 2.1 AA).
• Hosting & Operations: Collaborate with IT ops for Moodle deployment in Docker/K8s, documenting backups, DR, monitoring, patching, and environment promotion. Size for up to 6,000 users and meet performance targets.
• Admin Enablement & Knowledge Transfer: Train Training Team admins on Moodle functions, provide runbooks and documentation, and support UAT and go-live.

Skills & Experience: Must-Have

• Moodle administration/configuration experience (production deployments), including SCORM 1.2 and video delivery.
• Proven implementation of learning paths, badges, tier gating, and role-based permissions.
• Hands-on with Moodle notifications (email/in-app), reporting, transcripts, and certificates.
• Strong security fundamentals: MFA, TLS/HTTPS, password policy, session management, and audit logging.
• Practical knowledge of accessibility (ADA Title II, WCAG 2.1 AA) and content remediation best practices.
• Experience in Docker/Kubernetes environments and collaboration with IT ops.
• Ability to write clear technical documentation/runbooks and conduct admin training.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.

Skills: Nice-to-Have

• PHP/MariaDB/Postgres familiarity for Moodle stack; Linux administration basics.
• Experience configuring ILT features and roster/attendance workflows.
• Experience in public sector or regulated environments.
• Exposure to performance tuning for low-bandwidth users and responsive UX on mobile/tablet.
• Familiarity with REST/webhooks for future portal integration.
