As a Mainframe Automation Engineer, you will be instrumental in developing, deploying, and maintaining automated solutions for critical mainframe environments. This role requires deep technical expertise in IBM System Automation for z/OS (SA z/OS) and CA OPS/MVS, alongside proficiency in scripting languages like REXX, CLIST, and Netview PIPE. You will work on projects ranging from automated IPLs and application recovery to implementing infrastructure critical event management and transforming client automation toolsets.
This position involves supporting automation applications through various upgrades, z/OS updates, and data center consolidations. You will also participate in feasibility studies, recommend solutions, and provide 24/7 on-call support on a rotational basis, collaborating with teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently.
Required Technical Skills
- Deep knowledge of IBM System Automation for z/OS (SA z/OS) and CA OPS/MVS
- Experience in migration projects between CA OPS/MVS and IBM SA z/OS
- Proficiency in REXX, CLIST, and Netview PIPE programming
- Installing, configuring, and maintaining z/OS systems
Preferred Skills
- Experience with AF Operator or BMC Mainview AOF
- Familiarity with multiple LPARs/complex environments
- Understanding of ITIL processes and DR procedures
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy automated solutions, including automated IPLs, application recovery, and auto ticket generation
- Support automation applications during upgrades, z/OS updates, data center consolidations, and CPU refreshes
- Maintain and enhance inherited client automation code
- Implement infrastructure critical event management, remote console access, and paging
- Transform client automation to standard toolsets across multiple environments
- Participate in feasibility studies and recommend mainframe automation solutions
- Provide 24/7 on-call automation support on a rotational basis
- Collaborate with teams and clients to troubleshoot, perform RCA, and resolve issues efficiently
