Job Overview

The Information Architect will lead the design of the website's information architecture for a county digital transformation project in Austin, TX. The role involves creating intuitive navigation, accessibility, and taxonomy design to support diverse citizen needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of the website's information architecture for optimal usability.
  • Conduct content audits and map legacy content into new structures.
  • Develop a taxonomy and service categorization model reflecting county departments and citizen needs.
  • Collaborate with content strategists, UX designers, and county stakeholders.
  • Define metadata schemas and tagging strategies to enhance search and discoverability.
  • Create wireframes, service directories, and navigation models as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) and usability best practices.
  • Document governance recommendations for ongoing taxonomy maintenance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an Information Architect, Content Strategist, or similar role.
  • Expertise in taxonomy design, metadata, classification systems, and content modeling.
  • Experience with content audits and legacy content mapping.
  • Familiarity with usability principles, accessibility standards, and citizen-centric design.
  • Strong collaboration, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms is a plus.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working on public sector, government, or higher education websites.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) and related digital guidelines.
