Job Description

Enterprise Data Governance & Compliance

The Data Governance & Compliance Consultant will be responsible for developing and operationalizing enterprise data governance policies, standards, and processes. This includes establishing data ownership, stewardship models, and domain accountability structures. A key aspect of the role is defining data classification, retention, privacy, and lifecycle standards, ensuring alignment with insurance regulations. The consultant will lead governance councils and cross-functional working groups to drive these initiatives.

A critical component of this role involves hands-on experience using Atlan as the enterprise data catalog and governance platform. You will be expected to configure metadata ingestion from various sources, including data warehouses, BI tools, ETL pipelines, and core insurance systems. Responsibilities also include building and managing data domains and taxonomies, a business glossary, data lineage visualization, data quality scorecards, stewardship workflows, and classification and tagging frameworks. The role requires implementing data issue management and remediation workflows within Atlan.

Ensuring compliance with NAIC reporting requirements, state insurance regulations, and data privacy laws (such as HIPAA where applicable and CCPA) is paramount. The Data Governance & Compliance Consultant will also support audit and regulatory reporting readiness.

Insurance Domain Alignment

This position requires close collaboration with underwriting, claims, actuarial, finance, legal, and compliance teams. The goal is to establish trusted data assets crucial for loss ratio analysis, claims reserves reporting, risk modeling, and policy lifecycle management. The consultant will improve transparency and traceability of regulatory reporting data through meticulous lineage and documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or enterprise data implementation.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience configuring and administering Atlan.
  • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM).
  • Expertise in metadata management and lineage.
  • Familiarity with data quality frameworks and Master Data Management (MDM).
  • Experience with regulatory reporting in insurance.
  • Experience integrating Atlan with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, AWS, etc.).
