About the Role
5-D Systems, a KRATOS Company, is actively seeking a highly motivated Chief Systems Engineer to provide systems engineering technical contribution and leadership within their engineering organization. With a strong background in developing and testing unmanned and manned aircraft systems, ground vehicles, and aerospace technologies, 5-D Systems offers a dynamic environment for experienced professionals. The Chief Systems Engineer will be instrumental in defining and upholding systems engineering standards, tools, methods, and training while also providing expert technical oversight and individual contributions to complex aerospace development programs. This full-time position requires strong leadership in a team setting, mentoring capabilities, and effective communication with customers and company leadership.
This is a full-time role requiring successful team collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and enforce prescriptive rules for systems engineering practices.
- Develop or integrate Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) tools to enhance engineering efficiency.
- Document and refine approaches to systems engineering problems and processes.
- Generate and execute applicable training for the systems engineering organization.
- Analyze, decompose, derive, and allocate customer and stakeholder requirements to system elements.
- Develop system architecture for both new and existing systems.
- Conduct trade studies and perform design research to determine optimal requirements and architecture.
- Develop system/subsystem interface definitions, schematics, and design documentation.
- Review test plans and reports to ensure quality.
- Collaborate with other Chief Engineers to ensure consistent, high-quality engineering services.
- Perform peer reviews of technical work.
- Assist in preparing proposals and presentation materials.
- Support the 5-D Business Lead in defining and achieving short- and long-term business objectives within the systems engineering functional area.
- Travel to customer or internal locations as required (potentially >25%).
Required Experience & Skills
- Self-directed with sharp analytical abilities and excellent communication skills.
- Capable of working effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Proven technical leadership capabilities.
- Results-oriented with a strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
- Must have experience working within the Defense and/or Aerospace industry.
- Performed full lifecycle systems engineering tasks as both an individual contributor and technical lead.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- 15+ years of applicable industry experience.
- A U.S. DoD Secret Clearance or higher, or the ability to obtain one.
