AI Solutions Architect Role Overview

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Solutions Architect (Contractor) will collaborate with our existing internal AI product management team, Vendor Teams, and existing development staff to develop, enhance, and streamline our AI systems. This position requires minimal supervision, with the architect exercising independent judgment within well-defined parameters.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of secure, scalable AI and Agentic AI solutions, ensuring alignment with DES mission, policies, and public-sector standards.
• Define comprehensive end-to-end AI architectures, including data ingestion strategies, RAG pipelines, LLM orchestration, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Provide critical technical leadership, create relevant architectural documentation for approvals, and offer guidance to internal teams and system integrators.
• Ensure stringent compliance with State of Arizona security, privacy, accessibility, and data-governance requirements (e.g., PII, HIPAA, CJIS where applicable).
• Establish robust reference architectures and best practices for responsible, ethical, and compliant AI use across DES programs.
• Evaluate and integrate cutting-edge AI platforms, cloud services, and vendor solutions, coordinating closely with procurement and legal teams.
• Design architectures that inherently support explainability, auditability, bias mitigation, and transparency in critical decision-support systems.
• Collaborate effectively with DevOps (cloud ops), cybersecurity, and data teams to seamlessly operationalize AI solutions, moving them from proof of concept to full production.
• Support the overarching AI strategy, contribute to roadmap development, and prepare executive briefings to scale AI capabilities across various DES programs.

Skills Required

• Extensive experience in AI Development, particularly with Agentic AI and Azure OpenAI.
• Proficiency in LLM, ML, RAG, and designing human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Competence in .Net (C#, VB.Net), HTML, JavaScript, and advanced automation tools (OCR, IDP, AI/ML).
• Demonstrable strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to design and implement AI agentic solutions from both business and technical requirements.
• Capability to develop detailed technical specifications, designs, and architecture artifacts.
• Adeptness at breaking down complex business problems into logical tasks and thinking creatively.
• Ability to perform thorough code analysis to understand implementation details.
• Excellent capability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities effectively.

Skills Preferred

• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience using API/Services (REST & SOAP services).
• Proficiency with MS Office, Google Suite, and OnBase Unity Client.
• A commitment to educating and mentoring developers in best practices.
• Experience with agile development methodologies such as Scrum, Trello, Kanban, SAFe, Lean principles, and a strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and ITIL Process.
