Job Description

Senior Industrial Designer

At Manta Sleep, we’re on a mission to help people sleep better. We design high-quality sleep products like sleep masks and accessories that genuinely improve rest and recovery. Over the past few years, we’ve grown quickly and today we’re a $30M eCommerce company with a clear goal of reaching $50M in revenue.

We’re a fully remote, globally distributed team spread across Europe, South Africa, and Asia. Our culture is intentionally anti-corporate - no bureaucracy, no micromanagement, and a lot of ownership.

We care about building a team of thoughtful, ambitious people who want the freedom to do great work and the responsibility that comes with it.

We’re looking for a Senior Industrial Designer who can take full ownership of designing new physical products from concept all the way to production. This person will elevate the quality, usability, and aesthetic of our sleep product line while ensuring designs are commercially viable and ready for mass production.

About The Role

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the design process from concept to product launch, balancing creative vision with practical execution
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing partners, marketing, and leadership to bring products to market successfully
  • Create detailed CAD models and manufacturing-ready Tech Packs
  • Present clear, evidence-based design directions and communicate progress across teams
  • Iterate product designs based on user feedback, research insights, and market trends
  • Conduct both qualitative and quantitative research, including user interviews
  • Ensure design intent is maintained from prototype stage through mass production
  • Develop CMF specifications and understand how materials, fabrics, and finishes impact product performance
  • Use customer data and analytics to improve product design and user experience
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging materials, and product innovations

This is a full-time, fully remote role with asynchronous working hours. We prefer working hours to be between GMT0 and GMT+8 so there’s at least a 3-hour overlap with the rest of the team.

Requirements

About You

To excel in this role, you need:

  • 5+ years of experience in Product Design or Industrial Design focused on physical consumer products
  • Experience designing products in a fast-growing eCommerce company ($30M–$50M+ revenue)
  • Proven experience designing both soft goods and hard goods (home, wearable, or textile-based products)
  • Demonstrated ability to take products from concept and sketch stage through mass production
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D rendering software such as Keyshot (or equivalent)
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Rhino, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360
  • Strong proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Hands-on prototyping experience including 3D printing and physical mock-ups
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design and design thinking methodologies
  • Experience conducting and applying user research and usability testing
  • Ability to align product design with business goals and product roadmaps
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes and bringing products to mass production
  • Ability to create CMF specifications and detailed Tech Packs for factories
  • Strong collaboration skills with engineering, marketing, and manufacturing partners
  • Clear written and visual communication skills
  • Fluent English

Brownie points for:

  • Experience designing wearable products delivered to market
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
  • Experience designing sleep, wearable, medical, audio, or head-worn products
  • Experience in ergonomic validation such as fit studies or pressure mapping
  • Experience working directly with Asian factories (China/Vietnam)
  • Ability to speak Mandarin Chinese or other languages useful for supplier communication

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive. They’re a hands-on designer who enjoys execution as much as strategy, communicates clearly, and thrives in a remote environment. They stay calm under ambiguity, prioritize high-impact work, and collaborate well with others while maintaining strong ownership of their projects.

You’ll report to Nathan Tomlinson, Head of Product Design.

Benefits

What’s in it for you?

  • $6,500 – $8,000 per month*
  • Full-time & fully remote role with asynchronous work flexibility
  • Flexible time off policy including unlimited vacation days
  • All local public/bank holidays off
  • Quarterly fitness or gym reimbursement
  • Annual learning budget for courses, books, or conferences
  • High-trust environment with zero micromanagement and a collaborative global team

*Please note that this is a gross salary and that you are responsible for any tax-related procedures in your country of residence. We kindly ask you to apply only if you are happy to work remotely as an independent contractor.
