Overview

Jobgether is recruiting for a Principal Data Engineer on behalf of a partner company in the United States. This role combines hands-on engineering with strategic leadership to design, implement, and optimize enterprise-scale data platforms and architectures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain end-to-end data architectures including lake, lakehouse, and warehouse designs.
  • Establish standards for schemas, contracts, orchestration, storage layers, and semantic models.
  • Design and implement scalable ELT/ETL and event-driven pipelines.
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance through SLAs and validation tests.
  • Lead performance tuning, capacity planning, query optimization, and cost management.
  • Implement security and compliance best practices and regulatory alignment.
  • Enable analytics and machine learning by operationalizing data for experimentation and BI.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and guide cross-team trade-off decisions.

Accountabilities

In this Principal Data Engineer role, you must translate complex business needs into robust data products and oversee company-wide data initiatives with an emphasis on scalability and security.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with 3+ years in a senior role.
  • Proven leadership in data architecture and platform initiatives.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and modern data technologies (Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks).
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Scala, or Java).
  • Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect) and streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis, or Pub/Sub).
  • Deep understanding of data modeling, testing, lineage tracking, and observability.
