Job Description

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Residency Program

Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services is now accepting applications for our Spring 2026 Residency Year, beginning around April 20, 2026. The application deadline is rolling, with final decisions made around March 20, 2026. We encourage interested candidates to download the application and submit it to pnpresidency@jbfcs.org.

Residency Overview

This year-long residency is designed to cultivate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (PNPs) into clinical leaders within our agency and the broader mental health field. The program emphasizes enhanced supervision and support, providing precepted clinical experiences with dedicated guidance from experienced PNPs and psychiatrists. Residents will gradually build their caseloads, avoiding the overwhelming 'sink or swim' scenario common for new graduates.

Key Program Components

  • Enhanced Supervision: Receive individualized, continuous supervision from seasoned NPPs and psychiatrists throughout the day and evenings.
  • Specialty Rotations: Gain diverse experience by providing care to a variety of clients with regular supervision and support.
  • Gradual Caseload Building: Systematically increase caseloads to ensure a manageable and supportive learning environment.
  • Leadership Development: Participate in weekly didactic sessions covering readings, guidelines, and case studies to foster clinical growth and leadership skills.
  • Quality Improvement (QI): Engage in QI experiences to identify and address trends impacting mental health care, contributing to agency-wide improvements.
  • Peer Support: Weekly QI and didactic sessions also serve as opportunities for peer support, mitigating the isolation and stress often experienced by new PNPs.

Clinical Experience and Travel

To provide comprehensive training, the residency includes diverse settings and populations. Residents must be willing and able to travel to different agency sites, typically one day a week. Examples of potential sites include Riverdale, Bronx, and Midwood, Brooklyn.

Post-Residency Commitment

Upon successful completion of the year-long residency, graduates are expected to continue their employment at the agency for at least one year as full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners. This commitment allows for continued development of client relationships, and collaboration with preceptors, therapists, and program directors within our rich collaborative culture.

Compensation and Benefits

Residents are offered competitive salaries commensurate with the reduced caseload during the residency period, along with full benefits.

We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
