About the role
About The Role
Jasper is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own the architecture and modernization of its governance domain. This critical backend foundation includes authentication, roles and permissions, organizations, and billing. You will be responsible for refactoring these systems to be composable, stable, and scalable, enabling the next generation of enterprise workflows. This is a deep technical role for an individual contributor who wants to drive architectural direction and harden essential systems. This is a fully remote role reporting to the Director of Engineering, open to candidates located anywhere in the continental US.What You Will Do At Jasper
- Own the architecture of our governance domain end-to-end (authentication, roles and permissions, organizations, groups, billing) and drive its modernization for scale, security, and extensibility.
- Lead the refactoring of foundational backend systems toward an AI-native architecture, ensuring they support composable, customizable workflows for enterprise customers.
- Set technical direction for authentication, authorization, and organizational modeling, balancing immediate hardening with long-term platform thinking.
- Invest heavily in the governance domain with strong technical leadership, although this will not be the only area you work in.
- Partner with product and engineering leadership to translate enterprise requirements (CMOs, marketing admins, FDEs) into scalable platform capabilities.
- Mentor and elevate the engineering team, raising the bar on backend practices, code quality, and architectural rigor.
- Operate hands-on 70–80% of the time, writing and reviewing critical-path code while providing technical leadership.
What You Will Bring To Jasper
- AI fluency with a working understanding of core AI concepts (LLMs, agents, tokens, credits, context windows, RAG, data governance, etc.), applied to backend engineering.
- Heavy backend experience: You have owned complex, business-critical backend systems before and know how to harden them for enterprise scale.
- Deep expertise in at least one of: authentication/authorization, multi-tenant systems, or billing platforms.
- Enterprise backend DNA: You have built for enterprise buyers and understand the demands of governance, compliance, and reliability at scale.
- Strong architectural judgment: Ability to balance pragmatism with long-term platform thinking, and know when to build vs. buy vs. refactor.
- Track record of technical leadership as an IC: Mentored engineers, raised the bar on code quality and practices, and driven technical direction as an individual contributor.
- Excited to keep growing and leveling up as an IC in a deep technical role.
- Direct experience in the governance problem space: auth/authz, roles and permissions, multi-tenant organizations (nice to have).
- Experience with billing systems and usage-based pricing models (nice to have).
- Experience building for enterprise buyers: SSO/SAML, SCIM, audit logs, compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO 27001) (nice to have).
- Familiarity with AI-native product development: integrating LLMs, building agentic workflows, RAG systems (nice to have).
Team & Context
