What You’ll Do

The Associate Engineer will support the Consular Appointment Management Platform (CAMP) program at the U.S. Department of State. This mission-critical modernization effort unifies consular scheduling worldwide and improves access to essential services. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience working with senior engineers while learning secure, accessible, and scalable coding practices in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to design, coding, and testing of CAMP features.
  • Support integration with other Department of State systems.
  • Develop testable, accessible code per cybersecurity and Section 508 standards.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies to ensure team alignment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and DevOps.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues, escalating when necessary.
  • Learn modern DevSecOps practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code.

Requirements

Public Trust Clearance or higher (ability to obtain and maintain required background investigation).

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years in software engineering, development, or systems integration.
  • Basic knowledge of at least one modern programming language (JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, C#).
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred) or willingness to learn.
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs and web development fundamentals.
  • Interest in learning secure coding, accessibility, and Agile/DevOps practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Current authorization to work with the Department of State or other federal agencies.

This is a remote role with up to 10% travel required.

Salary Description

Salary range: $82,600 - $95,000.
