About the Travelling Project Engineer Role

IONATE is a deep technology start-up building the technology backbone for smart grids. The Travelling Project Engineer is responsible for hands-on engineering, project management, and site-based troubleshooting across the entire product lifecycle—from concept and prototyping to pilot deployments and commercial rollouts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Support & Engineering: Research, design, procure, test, commission and install devices for projects and new pilots.
  • Participate in system architecture, design, build, and test both in-house and on-site.
  • Prepare and review engineering documentation, drawings, reports, and plans.
  • Integrate hardware, software, and control systems while bridging technical teams.
  • Project Execution & Management: Ensure project delivery in scope, on time, and within budget.
  • Engage with customers, suppliers, and partners at all project stages.
  • Monitor project status, anticipate issues, and support risk management.
  • Support supplier evaluations, logistics, procurement, and quality assurance.

Site-Based Engineering & Travel

This role involves national or international travel on short notice for site surveys, testing, installations, commissioning and post-delivery troubleshooting. Candidates must be ready to adapt quickly to project scope changes in diverse field environments.

Requirements & Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Power Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Experience with transformers, grid connected inverters, substation design or grid interfaced hardware.
  • Proven experience traveling for site-based projects including SAT, FAT, installation and commissioning.
  • Proficiency in technical project management tools: Confluence, JIRA, MS Projects, AutoCAD, and SAP.
  • Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and manage flexible working schedules.
