The Role of a Senior DevOps Engineer at ION
As a Senior DevOps Engineer at ION, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure and tools needed for efficient software service provision. You will collaborate closely with development and infrastructure teams to streamline processes, enhance system reliability, and ensure seamless integration and delivery of software services. Your role will involve automating workflows, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues to maintain high availability and performance. Strong analytical skills, effective communication, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment are key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with Development, Infrastructure, Support, and Product Management teams to provide tools supporting business processes across monitoring, validation, deployment/upgrades, investigation/troubleshooting, business intelligence, and security.
- Ensure systems are available and operating within expected parameters through robust monitoring solutions.
- Validate successful deployments and correct configurations post-release.
- Guide software through CI/Deployment pipelines to meet business requirements.
- Investigate issues escalated from the support team to understand root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Analyze application/tool usage to provide insights that drive future development.
- Support penetration tests and security reviews, understanding the impact of security threats.
- Continuously deliver high-quality software to production as part of a wider team.
- Apply experience and knowledge to solve common and complex issues independently.
- Provide constructive and timely feedback to the ION Analytics team to improve and automate repetitive tasks.
- Contribute to refining existing processes to enhance quality, productivity, and promote best practices.
Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a related DevOps role.
- Some experience with PowerShell, JavaScript, TypeScript, .NET, and SQL.
- Demonstrated experience with Azure DevOps pipelines or GitHub Actions.
- Proficiency with monitoring tools such as SCOM Management packs or Site 24/7.
- Practical skills in debugging and profiling applications.
- Experience with Windows and Azure Administration.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Degree educated in Computer Science or a relevant subject.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Enthusiasm for delivering high-quality software and driving innovation.
- Positive, can-do approach to work, consistently delivering on commitments.
- Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively.
- Capable of earning respect and building trust through high-quality delivery and demonstrating added value.
