Uncover Hiring Manager

Job Description

About InvestorDNA

We’re a retirement planning-focused firm working with clients across Canada. We offer both fee-for-service planning and ongoing full-service relationships. Our focus is on planning and working closely with clients to build and guide their strategy, while collaborating with a select group of third-party portfolio managers who handle the investment management. Most of our clients are high-income professionals who want clarity about their financial future.

Client Questions We Solve

  • When can I comfortably retire?
  • What’s the most tax-efficient way to draw down my investments?
  • When should I start CPP and OAS?
  • How do I turn decades of saving into a sustainable retirement income?

We solve these questions through real financial planning, not product sales.

Our Work Focuses On

  • Retirement income strategies
  • Tax-efficient drawdown planning
  • Guardrails and income reserves
  • Estate planning, trusts, and gifting strategies
  • Corporate funds decumulation strategy
  • Financial planning integrated with portfolio strategy
  • CPP, OAS, and pension optimization

Our firm is growing quickly because Canadians are looking for the thoughtful, detailed, data-driven planning we provide.

How We Think About Planning (And Why This Role Is Different)

We don’t expect you to show up with all the answers. We’ve spent years developing a structured, methodical approach to retirement planning; frameworks, systems, and ways of thinking that help us consistently deliver high-quality advice. In this role, you will learn and apply our planning frameworks, build on them with your own experience and ideas, and help refine and evolve how we deliver planning as a firm. If you’re someone who wants to sharpen your thinking, deepen your technical skills, and become even better at your craft, this role will push you in the right ways.

Who We Are

We are planners first. We believe the best financial advice starts with understanding someone’s goals, what they want from retirement, and what is most important to them about money. Through honest conversations, careful analysis, and a methodical approach, we help people make good financial decisions. We believe that planning is the product, not an add-on! Most of us also happen to be parents with young kids. So we care about things like flexibility, family time, and stepping away for a school concert or a sick day without guilt. We work hard, communicate clearly, and care deeply about our clients. We believe great work and great lives can coexist. You won’t find ego, office politics, or micromanagement here.

What This Role Actually Looks Like

This is a deep technical planning role. You will be responsible for building financial plans, analyzing retirement scenarios, solving tax planning problems, and helping clients understand their financial future. You’ll work closely with our Financial Guides (relationship advisors) to develop strategies and move prospects through the planning process. A typical week might include working on 2–4 retirement plans, using financial planning software (Snap, Adviice, Income Lab), presenting 1–2 client plan presentations (Google Slides), modeling income drawdown strategies, testing multiple tax planning strategies and scenarios, collaborating with the team on complex cases, supporting prospect meetings with technical insight, maintaining regular and thoughtful communication with clients via video and phone, preparing follow-up summaries and planning notes, providing ongoing planning support to clients after onboarding, and other duties as required. A successful planner in this role can independently manage multiple planning engagements from start to finish. You’ll be helping clients find clarity, confidence, and relief.

What Success Looks Like

  • Leading and delivering multiple fee-for-service retirement plans each week
  • Managing planning engagements from start to finish
  • Delivering high-quality analysis across retirement, tax, and investment strategies
  • Helping clients clearly understand their financial future
  • Supporting the team in converting prospects into long-term clients
  • Maintaining strong planning quality and accuracy
  • Taking on client service proactively, identifying and addressing needs preemptively
  • Conducting ongoing client meetings and planning updates

Who You Are

You think like a planner and like an owner. You love turning complex financial data into clear strategies. You triple-check assumptions because accuracy matters to you. You communicate clearly and confidently with clients. You enjoy breaking down and solving problems others find complicated. You take initiative rather than waiting for instructions. You care about client outcomes, not just completing tasks. You collaborate well with others. You feel genuine satisfaction when clients finally understand their plan. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys thinking deeply about financial problems and building thoughtful plans.

You Feel Comfortable Discussing Things Like:

  • Government Benefits: CPP and OAS timing strategies
  • Retirement income planning: RRSPs, TFSAs, non-reg accounts, corporations
  • Estate planning concepts and strategies: RRSP meltdown, TFSA maximization
  • Tax-efficient drawdown strategies: Tax bracket harvesting
  • Portfolio integration: Guardrails, income reserves, and asset allocation

Who This Role Is NOT For

This role likely won’t be a good fit if you prefer investment management over financial planning, enjoy relationship management but not deep analysis, want a highly structured corporate environment, need constant direction or supervision, or are uncomfortable explaining complex financial ideas to clients.

Qualifications

  • A professional designation such as CPA, CFP, or TEP (or working toward one)
  • Experience building Canadian retirement plans and using financial planning software
  • Strong understanding of Canadian taxation personally and corporately
  • Understanding of how investments are taxed (capital gains, dividends, interest)
  • Knowledge of planning strategies across registered and non-registered accounts
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Seasoned in building and presenting client-facing presentations/slide decks
  • Strong communication skills with clients
  • Ability to manage multiple planning engagements simultaneously
  • Comfort working independently and remotely with asynchronous communication

Compensation & Growth

We believe compensation should grow alongside the business. Current range: $90,000 – $110,000 base salary (depending on experience and credentials) Annual profit-sharing bonus ranging from 0% to 50% of base salary $2,000 annual Healthcare Spending Account (HSA) allowance.

We also offer:

  • Remote work anywhere in Canada
  • Flexible, family-friendly work environment
  • 3 weeks of vacation, plus a two-week office closure during the Christmas break (typically Dec 19 – Jan 4), and guilt-free sick time
  • Continuing education support
  • Technology and equipment to deliver high-quality virtual plans
  • A clear path to senior leadership
  • Potential opportunity to participate in the firm’s long-term growth, with access to share-based incentives over time based on performance and alignment
