The Opportunity: PV Quality Control Engineer
The PV Quality Control Engineer will be responsible for executing onsite solar PV projects, which includes PV module testing, inspections, audits, commissioning verification, and troubleshooting. This role requires executing work within all technical, commercial, safety regulatory, and environmental requirements to meet or exceed client expectations. The successful candidate will be adept at troubleshooting issues that arise during testing, resolving conflicts, communicating effectively virtually with colleagues, and coordinating work with client representatives onsite. Comfort working in a group environment and a willingness to coordinate activities across time zones are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel to client sites to perform systems audits, inspections, and commissioning on solar PV systems and components.
- Analyze test data and contribute to report generation.
- Participate in PV inspections to ensure safe and proper testing and data management.
- Utilize and maintain test devices and tools effectively.
- Assist in coordination with client representatives and other onsite personnel.
- Conduct quality control audits at PV manufacturing facilities.
Qualifications
- B.S. in engineering or physics (4-year engineering/science degree).
- Strong understanding of PV modules and systems components and operation.
- Experience in PV testing/inspection, O&M, or electrician experience with C&I and/or utility-scaled PV systems preferred.
- Proficiency with I-V Curve Tracing, Megger Testing, Infrared Scanning, Visual Inspection, Multimeter Use, and safety practices during inspections/commissioning.
- Experience interpreting EL images and/or I-V curve traces, and/or testing PV modules and cells is a significant plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal); diligent record-keeping; proficient Microsoft Office and computer skills.
- NABCEP certification preferred.
- OSHA 10/30 certification, fall protection training, and training in arc-flash, lock-out/tag-out, and other special protective equipment and procedures desirable.
- Ability to work outdoors in harsh conditions, including desert areas, winter conditions, nighttime work, long hours standing, and climbing stairs and ladders.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (e.g., steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket/apron, arm guards).
