About the role
About Intersect
We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.
Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.
Location & Team Gatherings
Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016. We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, TX; and Toronto, ON.
We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.
About This Role
As a Structural / Civil Engineer on Intersect’s Natural Gas Power Plant (NGPP) Engineering team, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of impactful projects. As a key member of a multi-disciplinary team, you will ensure the technical quality and timely delivery of engineering tasks while developing a strong understanding of owner expectations, project scope, budget, and timelines.
You will help advance complex natural gas power plant projects from early feasibility through Issued for Construction (IFC) design. This includes independently owning early-stage civil and structural due diligence, optimizing site layouts, and guiding design elements through key project milestones.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with partners across Engineering and Execution, Development, Real Estate, GIS, Permitting, Construction, Finance, and Operations to ensure technical clarity, aligned decision-making, and strong ownership of deliverables. This position reports to the NGPP Engineering Manager and plays a pivotal role in shaping high-quality, technically robust designs.
Team Overview
The NGPP Engineering & Execution Team serves as Intersect’s civil and structural engineering subject matter experts and project engineers for data center and natural gas power plant projects. The team manages site design from early diligence through IFC and partners closely with EPCs, consultants, and internal stakeholders to drive efficient, constructible, and cost-optimized layouts.
Team members engage in detailed engineering work while applying project management rigor to ensure seamless progression from siting through procurement, construction, and operations. Joining this team means contributing to technical excellence across large-scale power plant projects supporting data center infrastructure.
What You’ll Do

- Support project development from concept to completion, identifying and mitigating design, budget, and schedule risks.
Site Design and Management
- Own and manage site layouts, master planning, and site design in coordination with internal and external consultants and EPCs.
Layout Optimization
- Optimize civil site layouts for efficient land use, considering equipment selection, topography, environmental constraints, and permitting requirements.
- Optimize grading plans, including cut and fill analysis and earthwork balancing.
Structural Design
- Develop and review design documentation for structural systems, including concrete, steel, prefabricated structures, and foundations.
- Coordinate with architectural, MEP, geotechnical, and construction teams to ensure alignment with project objectives and standards.
Technical Diligence
- Manage site diligence activities, including stormwater management, utilities coordination, and geotechnical studies.
Procurement and Construction Support
- Provide civil and structural engineering support during engineering and construction execution phases.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 5-8 years of experience in design, project management, or construction within natural gas power, data center, or heavy industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of civil and structural design principles, diligence processes, and EPC construction standards.
- Working knowledge of data center, natural gas power plant, or heavy industrial systems and cost drivers is preferred.
- Experience with foundation design for vibrating equipment, structural steel, reinforced concrete, and geotechnical coordination.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify risks and make sound engineering decisions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Strong project management capabilities, including managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
