The Role: Intensive Case Management Caseworker
As an Intensive Case Management Caseworker, you will play a critical role in addressing barriers to safety and wellness for especially vulnerable refugees, asylees, and other ORR-eligible populations. This position involves providing strengths-based, client-centered case management to diverse groups including single-headed refugee households, survivors of domestic violence and gender-based violence, older refugees, unaccompanied youth, and refugees experiencing mental health, psychological, physical disabilities, or medical conditions, as well as unanticipated arrivals and secondary migrants.
You will collaborate closely with clients, colleagues, and external parties to develop comprehensive service plans. These plans will utilize a broad range of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services and resources, tailored to individual client needs and preferences, all in accordance with client eligibility and program requirements.
Major Responsibilities
- Determine client eligibility for ICM programming and conduct thorough intake assessments, clearly reviewing program expectations, outcomes, and confidentiality.
- Develop individualized, SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) self-sufficiency plans for each enrolled client.
- Evaluate client progress bi-annually during active program enrollment, identifying new needs and action steps collaboratively with clients.
- Assist clients in navigating complex healthcare and social service systems, including support with benefit applications and appointment scheduling.
- Conduct community outreach to build and maintain a robust network of service providers.
- Maintain strong relationships with refugee and health coordinators to ensure holistic client support.
- Provide extended orientation on vital topics such as women’s health, transportation, and local physical healthcare systems.
- Respond effectively to client crises, seeking supervisor guidance when necessary.
- Facilitate client requests for financial assistance, meticulously tracking all aid within case files.
- Maintain up-to-date, accurate documentation in client case files and IRC’s Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database.
- Attend relevant local and national trainings and meetings to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Potentially train and supervise volunteers and interns.
Job Requirements
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field of study is preferred.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of case management experience, specifically with refugees or other vulnerable populations.
Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:
- A self-starter with excellent problem-solving abilities and a proven capacity to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Strong relationship-building, diplomacy, and networking skills, essential for effective internal and external collaboration.
- Demonstrated success in working and communicating effectively within a multi-cultural environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all work products.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required; proficiency in Spanish, Dari, Pashto, Kiswahili, Kinyarwanda, or French is highly desired.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to utilize internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle are necessary.
Working Environment & Compensation
This role offers a dynamic working environment combining standard office tasks, remote work, and field time within the service delivery area. Occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required.
The compensation for this position is an hourly rate of $29.10, applicable to US-based candidates. Exact offers are determined by work location, individual candidate experience, and skills relative to job requirements.
