Job Overview

The Emergency Environmental Health Coordinator Global Surge at International Rescue Committee (IRC) provides technical leadership for an effective, high quality, lifesaving environmental health response in humanitarian crises. The role is responsible for the overall design, development, and management of environmental health programming including clean water access, safe defecation facilities, and hygiene product distribution. The role requires rapid deployment within 72 hours for emergencies while ensuring compliance with national and international guidelines.

Major Responsibilities

Key duties include:

  • Conduct timely assessments and recommend priority program interventions.
  • Design program responses and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Draft proposals and manage budgets in collaboration with finance teams.
  • Lead implementation including recruitment, training, and procurement.
  • Prepare donor and management reports with robust monitoring systems.
  • Ensure strict compliance with IRC policies.
  • Coordinate with agencies, local governments, donors, and partners.
  • Support media and communications activities when required.
  • Create an inclusive team environment with emphasis on diversity and capacity building.
  • Ensure a comprehensive handover to successor.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in engineering, hydrology, environmental health or equivalent; Master’s preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in WASH/Environmental Health projects at a coordinator level or higher.
  • Experience leading teams in fast-paced and emergency environments.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of French or Arabic is a plus.
  • Strong digital literacy in MS Word, Excel and email applications, with preferred skills in MS Access, Project & GIS.
  • Proven ability to write and edit technical proposals and management reports.
  • Ability to work effectively under stress with flexible, focused and reliable performance.
