Job Description

Job Overview: Digital Literacy Specialist at International Rescue Committee

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is dedicated to responding to the world's worst humanitarian crises. As a Digital Literacy Specialist, you will play a crucial role in advancing workforce development and economic empowerment for IRC Seattle clients by strengthening their digital skills, access, and connectivity. This position is embedded within various Economic Empowerment programs, including Career Development, Employment, Small Business Development, Financial Literacy and Coaching, and Women’s Economic Empowerment, ensuring that digital literacy directly supports job readiness, training access, entrepreneurship, income generation, and financial stability. Reporting to the Senior Career Development Program Coordinator, you will collaborate cross-departmentally to deliver workshop-based instruction, individualized coaching, and practical digital solutions, focusing on removing digital barriers for clients to access employment, education, training, benefits, business tools, and essential financial systems.

Major Responsibilities

Program Delivery & Instruction
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate digital literacy workshops, classes, and group trainings aligned with workforce development and economic empowerment goals (e.g., job search and application platforms, resumes, email and professional communication, online learning portals, small business tools, budgeting and banking platforms, tele-services).
  • Provide individual and small-group digital coaching and tutoring, including in-language support when possible, to address client-specific barriers to employment, training, entrepreneurship, and financial participation.
  • Administer digital skills assessments and informal intakes to identify gaps and tailor instruction to client goals.
  • Offer structured drop-in support (e.g., open computer lab or office hours) for clients needing hands-on assistance with devices, applications, or platforms.
  • Utilize remote and hybrid delivery tools to expand access to instruction and flexible learning opportunities.
Career Development & Economic Empowerment Integration
  • Collaborate closely with Employment, Career Development, Small Business Development, Financial Literacy, and Women’s Economic Empowerment teams to align digital instruction with service plans and placement goals.
  • Coordinate with primary caseworkers and career navigators to reinforce learning, ensure continuity of services, and support progress toward employment and self-sufficiency.
  • Deliver instruction using inclusive, trauma-informed approaches that meet the needs of Limited English Proficiency participants, women, entrepreneurs, and clients with limited digital access or experience.
Digital Access & Connectivity Support
  • Support client access to digital devices, low-cost broadband options, and essential platforms required for workforce training, job placement, business development, and financial services.
  • Assist clients with internet adoption processes and navigation of free or affordable connectivity resources.
Coordination, Data, & Accountability
  • Track services, workshop attendance, learning outcomes, and referrals using IRC databases, digital case files, and other required data systems in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain documentation required for program monitoring, reporting, invoicing, and funder compliance.
  • Utilize data to assess effectiveness, identify gaps, and inform program improvements related to digital access and economic outcomes.
Program Development & Partnerships
  • Contribute to the development, refinement, and documentation of digital literacy curricula, standard operating procedures, and instruction materials.
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of IRC Seattle’s Digital Equity initiatives with a focus on economic participation and workforce readiness.
  • Conduct outreach and coordinate with community partners, workforce providers, and digital equity organizations to expand access to training, devices, and connectivity.

Job Requirements

To succeed as a Digital Literacy Specialist, candidates should have a relevant degree or equivalent combination of professional and lived experience. Lived experience as a refugee or immigrant is strongly preferred, alongside demonstrated experience working with refugee and immigrant communities. Strong digital skills are essential, with a proven ability to teach others to use various platforms for employment, training, entrepreneurship, benefits, and financial systems. Experience facilitating workshops or group instruction in workforce, education, or economic empowerment contexts is highly valued, as is familiarity with remote service and productivity tools like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
