Job Purpose
The Senior Officer, Humanitarian Information Analyst supports IFRC decision-making through rigorous data collection, analysis, and visualization. Reporting to the IM Regional Delegate and working within the Disaster Preparedness and Response unit of the Health, Disaster, Crisis and Climate department in the Africa Region, this role produces critical analytical products such as maps, dashboards, and infographics to inform emergency operations and humanitarian diplomacy initiatives.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Collect, consolidate, and analyze secondary data to identify information gaps.
- Develop emergency operation snapshots, disaster briefs and risk forecasts.
- Coordinate with National Societies, IFRC teams, ICRC, and partner agencies.
- Provide technical guidance and capacity building in humanitarian information analysis.
- Support, advise, and occasionally lead assessment designs and implementation.
Information Analysis Capacity Building And Development
Act as the technical focal point, provide remote and in-country support, and foster data-driven decision-making. Responsibilities include harmonizing data analytics standards, facilitating workshops, and ensuring lessons learnt inform global and country-level guidance.
Qualifications & Experience
A relevant university degree is required with post-graduate education preferred. Applicants must have 3 to 5 years of experience in information management and data analysis in humanitarian contexts. Experience in large-scale inter-agency assessments, survey design, and data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, QGIS) is essential. Fluency in English is required; French is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Languages
Knowledge in data analysis, visualization, database management (ACCESS, Excel, MySQL, PostgreSQL), statistical software (STATA, SPSS), and programming (R, Python) is valued. A strong grasp of GIS, emergency planning, and effective communication skills rounds out the candidate profile.
